Thor in aggression is a dream to play and is easily sitting at number one in my favorite hero/aspect combinations.
The aim of the deck is simple. You draw minions out from the villain deck and overkill them immediately while getting some kind of benefit from doing so. And that's it. Thor has a one track mind of defeating minions and hitting things as hard as he can.
The how is more complex.
To start things off, Thor wants to taunt a minion. Defender of the Nine Realms or Looking for Trouble will remove threat, engage a minion, and draw two cards (netting one).
Then he'll follow through with either a Hammer Throw or Into the Fray, overkilling the minion he just brought out. This will either deal the excess damage to the villain or remove threat from the main scheme.
Finally, he'll end the attack by tacking on Chase Them Down or Moment of Triumph to remove threat (usually from a side scheme) or add a huge buffer to his health to stay in the fight.
That is the core game play loop you will be executing with this deck every single turn. Everything else in the deck is only here to make doing that job easier or more efficient.
Sentry is a great ally both in his stat line and his ability to give an encounter card. "That's bad though, right?" I hear you ask, but it enables a higher chance of triggering "Have at Thee!" in the villain phase which will draw two cards so there's realistically very little danger in gaining an extra encounter card for such a strong ally.
Thor really helps pile on damage to the villain since Thor is usually busy hitting minions and manipulating the battlefield. She's also Asgardian which effectively gives two copies due to For Asgard!.
Valkyrie helps mitigate turns where you may have overstepped and drew out too many minions, has a decent attack, and is also Asgardian.
Wasp just seems good in a Thor deck. Since his primary resource type is getting her to three pym counters is no problem.
Hall of Heroes enables some enormous burst turns with Thor that can make Scarlet Witch's draw look like child's play. Activating this, triggering "Have at Thee!" in the villain phase, Asgard in play, and triggering "Have at Thee!" again in the hero phase will leave you with 11! cards in hand and that's after already removing three threat. That sounds like the stars need to align, but it happens far more often than you'd think.
The most exciting part of Galaxy's Most Wanted to me was just how much better it was going to make this deck due to Follow Through. I know nobody was really excited about this card and were on the fence with how good it'd be, but I will tell you now, it was meant for Thor in aggression. Consistently overkilling minions every turn means these upgrades give three more damage to every Hammer Throw, three more health off Moment of Triumph, and three more threat removed with Into the Fray. And they're upgrades that help thin the deck to keep consistently doing those things turn after turn. Beautiful.
With all of that out of the way, I will say the one glaring weakness this deck has is dealing with tough efficiently. Prior to Looking for Trouble, Piercing Strike was in that slot to help mitigate the tough status, but I feel having more enablers for the core game plan is more important than losing out on some ally damage.
I hope you give the deck a try and find as much fun playing Thor as I do thanks to this deck. I know I said it last time I posted my Thor list after Wasp released, but I'll say it again. Any aggression or basic card added to the game would have to be very impressive to make it into this list.

Apr 06, 2021Yes, I did. The Power of Aggression just works better as it also pays for Into the Fray, Follow Through, and Hall of Heroes and he already has two God of Thunder to help his resources. Team-Building Exercise only affects nine cards, five of which are in play permanently. On top of that, people look at his hand size of 4 and get squeamish about it, but because of "Have at Thee!" he realistically has a hand size of 5, sometimes 7. That was one of the deciding factors in whether to keep Looking for Trouble and remove Piercing Strike. The consistency of having that extra draw just outweighed the ability to have an option of ignoring tough. |
Apr 06, 2021Correction: 12 cards and 6 that are in play permanently. With one being his hammer and the others being allies. I don't think there's anything wrong with TBE, but you're giving up a lot of tempo by playing it to reduce the cost of other, more useful, upgrades. Worst case scenario it always pays for Mjolnir after throwing it with Hammer Throw, but even then I'm not sure I could justify it given how much resource generation is already in his deck. |
Apr 06, 2021I like! How does it perform solo? And, why no genuis? I get that the power of aggression fits the theme, but genius is a double for every card while power is only for red. |
Apr 06, 2021Better than my last build which cleared all expert villains. No Genius is because there's never a moment where I went, "If only I had a double resource right now." The Power of Aggression hits enough things in the deck that it's never a dead draw and will count toward the and requirements on allies. |
Apr 06, 2021Seems logical. Thx! |
Apr 06, 2021Dope! Thor is my most fun hero to play as so far. Was excited to build an aggression deck with him. I like a lot of this! For my play style, I'd swap a few more energy resources in there but that's just a personal preference. Have you tried Thor in protection? A lot of new cards make that a tempting choice. |
Question: having so many Asgard cards, have you considered getting one Team-Building Exercise to play them with lower cost? Thor needs any help his hand of 4 can get...
