I've been wondering for a very long time...
Can I really use "Welcome Aboard" for anything interesting?
With the release of Hugin & Munin, there are finally enough non-aggression allies to try it out an Asguardian "Welcome Aboard" deck with The Bifrost.
Primary Cards
- The Bifrost
- Enables search and play of allies when you have "Welcome Aboard" in hand.
- "Welcome Aboard"
- Used to play allies from hand or from The Bifrost. Note that these cards won't work with Make the Call.
- Hugin & Munin / Beta Ray Bill / Heimdall
- The new Asguardians that are welcomed aboard the Bad Boy.
Secondary Cards
- Build Support
- In order to get the bifrosty summoning working, Build Support is needed to cheat in The Bifrost.
- Knowhere
- Each Asguardian summoned brings with them an extra card. Note that Make the Call does not trigger Knowhere.
- Blaze of Glory
- Since the Asguardians are only Guardians in hero form, the good old buff 'n flip combo is great as ever.
- Command Team
- Once the Asguardians have been summoned and buffed, a few Command Team's can help get the most out of their temporary stat boost.
Tertiary Cards
- Make the Call
- It's very easy to get unlucky with the ordering of cards, and you may end up with all the allies in your discard pile. If you find yourself not quite setup or the next reshuffle is far off, call in the birds or something more expensive.
- Team Training
- The 1 extra hitpoint helps get the most out of Blaze of Glory, Command Team, and the expensive allies.
- Soaring Acrobatics
- Really makes Hugin & Munin a flexible ally (allies?). With Leader of the Guardians and Team Training down, the birds can thwart for 3 or attack for 2 the next 3 rounds.
More Cards...
- C.I.T.T
- Not essential to the build, but gives a bit of flexibility in terms of more readies for Asguardians.
- Booster Boots
- A cheap upgrade that can help cycle the deck if you have run out of Asguardians.
Tips
1. Deck Swap Allies for Bifrost
Quill's alter-ego action Smooth Talker is great when you are "unfortunate" enough to have an Asgard ally in hand.
Put the ally on top of the deck and summon with The Bifrost.
2. Play Build Support Early
While it's not necessary to complete Build Support early, be sure to put it on the board first thing you can.
It's unlikely the full setup is ready at first deck pass, but if you don't get this card down, it won't be ready at second pass either.
3. Kill Your Starlings
Keep an eye on the deck and ally state. Make sure to kill of your starlings (Hugin & Munin) right before a reshuffle. This ensures they can be re-summoned from the The Bifrost next turn.
This also applies to the rest of the Asgard allies, but they don't match the fun bird pun... apart from Beta Ray Bill, who has a beak in his name...
