This is my first public guide on CDB, sorry for my English but I wanted to write it. After a long time I finally created the Black Widow that I always wanted. When I started playing her, I always liked the idea of using the alterego mode to play Covert Ops and confuse the Villain from alterego, but above all the possibility of using the safe house to draw a preparation from the discard pile, to draw a card after playing a preparation through its alterego effect. The sadness in all of this was to see your preparations not activate because you remained in alterego mode. Now finally my dreams have come true thanks to the Ready for a Fight card, which will be the engine of the entire build.
This build could work better in multiplayer scenarios. The strategy consists of playing the upgrades to raise our DEF stat...
-
Synth-Suit, Play it as soon as you can, to increase your defense, and to be able to recharge after using a preparation. Keep in mind though that defending yourself from an attack after you switch from alter-ego to hero mode, using Ready for a Fight, You will deal damage, from the hero Widowmaker ability, but you will not be able to use the Synth-Suit to ready your hero (because you will be outside the time window). However you can use Attacrobatics or Target Acquired to ready after defending
-
Armored Vest, +1 def
-
Defense Specialist, +1 def and draw a card after defending, using Specialized Training to play it
...and being able to switch to alterego every turn to play these cards...
-
Ready for a Fight, to be able to switch to hero form during the Villain phase (avoid confusing it)
-
Safe House #29, to fish previously used Ready for a Fight or other preparations, if you have one on hand
-
Angel's Aerie, to heal yourself every time you switch alterego
... to be ready to defend ourselves. In the meantime let's put the upgrades to get various benefits, in order to generate resources for your preparations, and benefit more from the defense
-
Black Widow's Gauntlet, generates resources for preparations
-
Unflappable, draw a card after 100% defending
-
Electrostatic Armor, free damage to every defense
-
Hard to Ignore, will help you manage the main scheme after 100% defending
-
The Night Nurse, to remove annoying status effects
Play these cards if you have developed a good defense and manage to parry all the attacks, in this way you can play more cards during the turn
Let's move on to the preparations
-
Attacrobatics, if you haven't built a solid defense yet, can help you defend 100% so you can activate Unflappable and Hard to Ignore. You also can use it to activate the Synth-Suit to ready Black Widow after defending, or to reduce the damage of your allied players take by enemy strong boost card attack and deal part of it back to the sender.
-
Practiced Plan, to draw the Preparation you think will be most useful,
-
Grappling Hook if you have the chance, use the double resource to play it and use Black Widow's Gauntlets to play other 1 cost preparations. This way you will cancel uncomfortable treachery
-
Widow's Bite, will allow you to manage incoming minions
-
Espionage, simple, surge key will give you more cards
-
Target Acquired, cancels inconvenient boost effects and to activate the Synth-Suit to ready Black Widow after defending
Using these preparations during the opponent's turn will ensure a constant influx of damage through Black Widow's hero power: ("Widowmaker" — Response: After you trigger the ability of a Preparation card you control, deal 1 damage to an enemy). It will also be very useful to remove toughs from our opponents and face retaliations in complete safety.
Other Support Cards
-
Winter Soldier, you will play it for free with 4 or more preparations ready) and will mainly help you manage threats
-
Dance of Deathce, use it at the beginning of your turn before switching to alter-ego,if you need a damage boost or remove your stun or enemy tough status
-
Covert Ops, Use it wisely because a confused villain could prevent you from activating Ready for a Fight, but you can make the most of it when allies goes into alterego, you can better manage the threat
In the later stages, You will be able to have a starting hand of 10-12 cards:
- alter-ego, hand size:6
- Unflappable+1
- Defense Specialist+1
- Practiced Plan +1
- Avengers Mansion +1
- Safe House #29 +1
- Natasha Romanoff identity effect +1
of which more than half will be preparations. You will be able to play 6 or more preparations per turn and and it's very likely that you'll run out of deck every one or two turns and draw the additional encounter card, but you will be able to completely dominate your opponent.
Ps: Feel free to suggest or modify the deck as you see fit. The goal of this build is to make massive use of preparations like never before in any other Black Widow build.
I am waiting for further confirmation on how the Ready for a Fight and Synth-Suit interaction works correctly.

Apr 28, 2025Apparently Ready for a Fight (When an enemy would scheme, discard Ready for a Fight → change to hero form. That enemy attacks you instead.) should activate the blackwidow response ("Widowmaker" — Response: After you trigger the ability of a Preparation card you control, deal 1 damage to an enemy.) However, after defending yourself you will not be able to use the Synth Suit to ready Blackwidow, through Ready for a Fight, because you will be outside the time window. However, if after the villain gives you a boost card, and you choose to defend yourself, after flipping the boost card you can use acrobatic (Hero Interrupt (attack): When a boost card is turned faceup, discard Attacrobatics → cancel the boost icons on that card. Deal 1 damage to the villain for each boost icon canceled this way.) and use the Synth Suit to ready Blackwidow. Once you have everything set up and in place, you might start each monster turn with 10-11 cards, more than half of which will be setups: 6 starting alter hand, +2 for Unflappable and Defense Specialist, +1 Practiced Plan, +1 Avengers Mansion, +1 Safe House #29 and +1 Natasha Romanoff effect (the twelfth card), and you’ll probably run out of cards every one or two turns. |

Apr 28, 2025I see what you're saying and you're correct... When you trigger the ability of Ready for a Fight, you're still ready and in alter-ego, so you couldn't activate Synth-Suit off that preparation. You'd have to use another preparation in hero form to trigger it. With that much card draw, you might consider including Agent 13 and one of the new Energy Shield that came with Shuri... That would allow you to trade on energy resources per turn for an activation and ready Safe House #29, which can then pull another preparation card back. Maybe overkill, but I like to think about other neat tricks to add to a great deck. And this is a great deck. |
This is great. Using Ready for a Fight every turn to flip up and block. Unfortunately, you have to discard it before being in hero form, so you'd have to reclaim it with practiced plan before actually flipping up to hero form. But you "finish" resolving Ready For A Fight in hero form, which would trigger Black Widow's response for that preparation, at least.
But then perfect defending, thwarting, drawing a card, ready with Synth-Suit, then being able to play hero form cards, flip down, play alter ego actions, reclaim a used preparation card, get more card draw, and start your next turn with 6 cards? Chef's kiss. This probably won't make the front page with all the con of heroes decks being posted at the moment, but it should. Bravo, sir.
