"Put Into Play" Deck Series

The release of the Player Side Schemes has been the biggest change to Marvel Champions in some while. With the ability to put cards into play, rather than playing the cards directly, this has opened up some card combinations that were not previously possible.

(For those who would like the reference, according to RR1.5 in the “Play, Put Into Play” section: “Some abilities cause cards to be put into play. This bypasses the need to pay the card’s cost as well as any restrictions or prohibitions regarding playing that card”)

In this deck series released over the next few days or so, I would like to share five decks that highlight cards that can now be played without restriction through the use of Player Side Schemes:

You Get One Shot...

If you are anything like me, the best part of playing Black Panther is dropping Wakanda Forever! multiple times a turn. Would you like to regularly play Wakanda Forever 4, 5 or even 6 times per turn?

Call for Backup

Using Call for Backup you are able to cheat Gamora into play. Gamora's ability to find another event is very powerful, but I don't think there is another character who can use her ability more than T'Challa. He only comes with 6 events in his deck total, so if you don't add any more, he has a 5/6 chance of pulling a Wakanda Forever!

I have a previously published version of this deck that uses Make the Call in order to cheat Gamora into play by putting her into play from the discard pile. However, then the deck requires more events, Make the Call itself, which dilutes the odds of Gamora pulling Wakanda Forever! for you with her response. Now, using Call for Backup, you are nearly guaranteed to find a Wakanda Forever! every single turn.

Rapid Response

However, keeping her on the table is a problem. Once she is used up, you can't get her back into play again. But with Rapid Response, you can put her back into play again, which allows you to keep her going. Beware though, as you really do only get one shot at this...

Shuri is then quite a key card as she she can find you Rapid Response so you always have one on the table. This is where Ancestral Knowledge becomes a valuable card because you can put Shuri (among other cards) back into the deck to find again.

Adding HP

Once we have Gamora on the table, and we have a way to keep her there, our next goal is to give her as many Hit Points as we can. This deck then runs 3x copies of Reinforced Suit, Honorary Avenger and Comms Implant all of which will give her more HP, and therefore extending her lifespan before needing to trigger the Rapid Response. (Tip: Try not to trigger the Rapid Response currently on the table until you have the next one in your hand)

Team Training is also a key card because it ups Gamora's HP total all the time. Every time you need to trigger the last HP using Rapid Response, you will lose all your upgrades. But Team Training will always give her the 4th HP immediately.

Multiple Uses

You will absolutely reach a point where you can then trigger Gamora multiple times per turn. Remember, each one will likely provide a copy of Wakanda Forever! to play. Using Command Team and to a lesser extent, C.I.T.T., you'll be able to swing with Gamora for 2 or 3 times per turn, each time pulling a copy of Wakanda Forever! to play.

The challenge then is being able to pay for all these cards in your hand...

The Secret Weapon

With the release of Digging Deep, the paying for Wakanda Forever! has become an amazing combo. There is no sweeter feeling than discarding cards from your deck using Gamora, putting a copy of Digging Deep into your hand as you churn the deck, and then using that resource to pay for the Wakanda Forever! that you found. Additionally, you'll also likely find White Fox along the way too and put her on the table.

You'll likely find that you want to tank villain attacks, as you need to have damage on your character to play the Vibranium Suit. Clarity of Purpose can help you to take damage, but if you're playing 4+ Wakanda Forever! cards per turn, you'll want to have at least 4 damage on your character. Endurance can also help you build up a larger reserve of HP to play with.

If you play multiplayer, White Fox is going to be a free block for other characters. You can block with her for you, just be wary of maintaining a consistent amount of damage at all times.

How Many Wakanda Forevers Can You Play?

If you have all three Command Teams down and a Rapid Response on the table, you can theoretically play Gamora up to 5 times, and should have a hand full of Wakanda Forever cards. Starting a turn in Alter-Ego, The Golden City will allow you to start with 8 cards already, so having all 5 copies in your hand is a regular occurrence. My record is physically playing 6 copies personally, but I could have done 8 if I hadn't already smashed the villain to pieces. (Digging Deep is the gift that just keeps giving here when you shuffle your deck)

Be forewarned, you'll need to prepare to play on Heroic 1 because you will churn through your deck fast!! Gamora will only look at 6 cards in a deck cycle, so you'll be seeing encounter cards pretty much every turn. You'll want to prioritize getting her HP upgrades on her again after you use a Rapid Response, but you'll soon hit a phase where you can just end the game.

As long as you have damage to recoup, you'll likely be doing 6 attack, 1 heal and 1 thwart with all the upgrades out when you end the sequence with Panther Claws. If you get the 5 Wakanda Forever turn, 30 damage will end a villain pretty quickly.

Ending

As always, thanks for reading through this walkthrough and checking out my deck. Likes and comments are always appreciated!

Until next time Champions...

Oh boy BP is one of my least played heroes by far, but this deck and write up made me wanna build and play this deck ASAP! Can't wait to see what you have next in store with this series, i love the concepts so far! Thank you for your amazing work

@Immanent You're very welcome.

T'Challa is my favorite hero, so there's nothing more fun for me than shouting 'Wakanda Forever' over and over again.

...and yes, I do shout it when I play the card :)

Build Support for getting around play restrictions is my new obsession lol

I play a lot of two handed solo, and I have a Cable Justice deck that I keep ready to serve as a disgusting enabler for shenanigans such as this. I'm thinking of the swap for Call for Backup, since I'll have Cable put it in play. I've already got good targets for his other PSS...but I could throw in a HD to be generous when Build Support hits.

@dr00 - I've got some decks for you then!

I'm actually quite sad because I'm pretty sure I can't use the Agression Side Scheme to put a Energy Spear on a non-Guardian. Really wanted to make that one work too but my reading of the rules makes me think it isn't possible :(

We house rule crossing your arms and yelling wakanda forever, if you don't you must respectfully leave the table. Great deck!

This deck is absolutely wild! Just beat the crap out of Sandman and Juggernaut. Once it starts firing off, it's pretty much game over

Hey, I love the deck and concept :)

I tried it a few times (solo and 2p), it's hard to start your combo and survive the scheming, you need to thwart Call for backup reaaaally early in the game because most of your cards are useless without Gamora :p

I took out CITT (not useful enough) and 1 Honorary Avenger to add Maria Hill and Quincarrier, White Tiger and/or [Helicarrier] (/card/01092) (depending on my tests, sometimes reaching 41 cards with other cheap allies like Ironheart to chump-block) :)

Once it gets going though, it's incredibly good !!! Thx ;)
