Domino – Lucky Wall (Protection)

"Luck isn't a strategy. Unless you're me."

Overview

A defend-and-punish Protection build. Domino starts with 3 DEF, the deck pushes it higher, and almost every defense turns into a ready, a counter-attack or a card draw. The Best Offense... then lets her use that DEF for attacks and thwarts. Her kit handles the luck side: swapping cards onto the top of her deck to set up big Pistol shots, thwarts and basic powers.

Built to pair with Cable (Justice): Cable handles threat and side schemes, Domino blocks everything and hits back.

How Domino works

  • Hero ability: once per round, swap a card in hand with the top card of your deck. You always know what your next discard will be.
  • Double wilds: in hero form, every wild icon discarded from the top of your deck counts twice.
  • Alter-ego: once per round, swap a card in hand with the top card of your discard pile. Pull back the event you just used.
  • Mill payoffs: Domino's Pistol, Probability Field, Right Place, Right Time, A Good Workout, Luck Be a Lady, Diamondback and Outlaw all discard your top card and scale with its resource icons. Stack a double resource or wild on top first.

Game plan

  1. Build DEF. Innate Reflexes (starting card), Armored Vest and The Best Offense... take Domino from 3 to 6 DEF.
  2. Defend every attack. Each defense triggers several payoffs:
  3. Turn DEF into offense. With The Best Offense... in play, her basic attacks and thwarts use DEF.
  4. Ready again. Leading Blow readies Domino after a basic attack that still deals damage.

Key interactions

  • Leading Blow + The Best Offense...: Leading Blow reduces ATK by the boost icons on a discarded encounter card, but The Best Offense... ignores ATK modifiers. While it's in play, Leading Blow is basically a free ready after every basic attack.
  • Desperate Defense + Unflappable: take no damage, ready, and draw a card.
  • Pip the Pug: in alter-ego, put a Domino card from your discard pile back on top of your deck. Recycle Jackpot! or a big event.
  • The Painted Lady: cards you mill attach facedown here (up to 3), and in alter-ego you add one to your hand. Your mill turns into card advantage.
  • Jackpot!: shuffles back into your deck whenever it's discarded from the top, so it keeps powering up your mill effects.

Survival

  • Anticipated Attack: a tough status when an enemy attacks. Needs a side scheme in the victory display, which Cable provides.
  • Lucky Break: cancel a nasty
