How does retaliate 4 (+1 every defense with Electrostatic Armor) sound?

Description

We all know Luke is tough. That's a lot of his shtick. What I don't see as much talk about is he has the best in kit retaliate in the game at 2(!) Lean into this unique trait of Luke's, and it'll be tough luck for the villain.

Hey, that's the name of the show!.

Ronin gets us up to retaliate 3 with no effort, only making sure we remain antisocial. As usual, no problem. Luke doesn't need the extra help.

Having no allies does have its benefits, I tell myself, in that it opens up cards to use such as Army of One and Stand Alone. The extra ways to ready up are perfect for Luke to address anything on the board, and potentially more importantly, makes sure he is not exhausted on the flip down.

The fourth retaliate is the most finicky with Dauntless. Admittedly, it has a bit of counter synergy with Luke as the unpreventable damage will turn it off frequently. As such, we add Endurance to keep it going for at least 3 attacks (at full health). Endurance is also nice for the ever important Toughen Ups to trigger and get all those lovely toughs. What Doesn't Kill Me also helps keeping Dauntless online, but don't heal too much if you're flipping down so you can recover and get the lion's share of toughs.

Between Stand Alone and Fogwell's Gym, you have effectively 2 free defenses a turn, so even the damage from Electrostatic Armor adds up quick.

Does the sound of 21 upgrades make you nervous? Don't stress. Setup is a breeze when you have Taunt and don't care about the damage. Once setup, Taunt then becomes 3-4 damage and draw 3 cards, which I'm told is pretty good. There's also Unflappable and Power Man that effectively make Luke a 7 card hero hand and that's even before Change of Fortune.

Where's the rest of tough cards in protection? Hard Knocks is just too expensive for what you get. Perseverance is great but doesn't advance the game in a meaningful way, especially when Toughen Up just rapid fires toughs in your favor with Hidden Base supporting. And I...don't like "Come Get Me, Bub!". I feel like I should, especially with Change of Fortune, but it just feels durdly. The heal can also make it tough (pun intended) to recover.

Lastly, Luke is sneakily one of the best defenders in the game, able to effortlessly defend against 3(ish) villain attacks each turn. The ish is because he just tanks the hit to himself, and if he's first player it's closer to just 2. It goes something like this: Luke defends for player 1. Luke is now being attacked, and he Stands Alone. Luke defends for player 3, discarding a touch in the process because the villain can hit for more than 2 (you’d hope), readying him with Fogwell's Gym. Toss in Ready for a Fight, or even just another basic defense and that’s a full table defended for. Don’t forget all that sweet retaliate going on in the background while he does it, too. That's all with not even leaning into defending!
