Overview
Quicksilver's core kit is centred around stat boosts and readies. Anything that you can do to give him more of either of those will always be helpful.
Side-by-Side does both!
In one card, you can ready Quicksilver and his sidekick, and give them both a +1 THW / +1 ATK boost until the end of the phase.
But to use it, he needs his superpowered sibling sidekick - Scarlet Witch. She not only enables Side-by-Side, but also allows Quicksilver to get full value from his alter-ego ability.
Getting set up
Regardless of the rest of the deck, Quicksilver's key card is Friction Resistance. This is his main resource generator and makes his ability to ready all the more impactful. You should hard mulligan and use your Superpowered Siblings ability to dig for this card.
If you miss that, then the next best thing is to have one copy of Suit Up and one double resource in hand. This allows you to play Suit Up with the double resource to fetch Scarlet Witch and Sidekick, which can be played with your remaining resources.
Note that Suit Up can fetch from the discard pile, so it's fine to discard Scarlet Witch and/or Sidekick during your initial dig.
Once Scarlet Witch and Sidekick are in play, the aim is for them to survive the whole game. She can gain additional benefit from Inspired as a low-priority play.
Maximising alter-ego
Using the ability on Sidekick requires making a basic recovery in alter-ego form, so we want to make the most of form switching. There are a few very useful things for Quicksilver to do here:
- With Scarlet Witch in play, Quicksilver's alter-ego ability (Superpowered Siblings) allows him to discard 2 cards and draw 3. This is already good for scrying, but now comes with the bonus of being a card up afterwards.
- Serval Industries allows you to shuffle 2 Quicksilver cards from your discard pile in to your deck. This is great for recurring his most powerful events - Always Be Running and Maximum Velocity.
- Three copies of Moxie allow for cheap stat boosting, which Quicksilver loves, when switching back to hero form.
And, of course, starting the turn in alter-ego means increased hand size. Thanks to Superpowered Siblings, you can be on seven cards when switching to hero form. Quicksilver thrives on large hand sizes because of the ability to recur resource generation with Friction Resistance.
Professor X
Although they don't have the X-Men or Mutant trait in Marvel Champions, it feels thematically fair to include Professor X in a deck focused on the Maximoff twins!
Professor X is the key to getting in to alter-ego safely by using his ability to confuse the villain when he enters play.
He is the target for Suit Up after initial sidekick setup. You can fetch him and one copy of Inspired. Note that you do not need to actually play Inspired on him, so it can just be a spare resource for the round.
Every time Professor X hits the table, he can confuse the villain, thwart for 3, then maybe even block an attack. He is then forcibly discarded by his ability at the end of the round, which just leaves him ready to be fetched by another Suit Up.
Always be boosting
As mentioned in the Overview, the reason this deck is focused on setting up a sidekick is to make use of Side-by-Side.
This comes with a +1 THW / +1 ATK boost and the option of a ready. It is a 2-cost card, but if you have Friction Resistance in play then the ready essentially refunds 1 resource.
The other stat boosting events are Moxie, which is discussed above, and Morale Boost. The latter is not always going to be useful, but will often be playable as a 1-cost because of the resource generation available in the deck.
Finally, there is R&D Facility, which is there to be saved for those turns where all the stars align for a large number of readies, or to tip the balance when an extra stat point per ready will help defeat a minion or a scheme.
Everything else
The remaining cards not discussed are:
- Resource generators in Quincarrier and Deft Focus. There's not much to say here - resource generation always helps.
- Order and Chaos, which to be honest isn't that great, especially when you'll want to be in alter-ego a lot. But it felt wrong not to include the Team-Up card in a deck themed around maximising the Maximoffs!
Final words
Quicksilver is at his most powerful when he can boost his stats and use those boosts multiple times in a turn.
This deck will allow you to have those insane turns that we all love to play where it feels like Quicksilver really is moving at top speed and clearing up the whole board in front of him.
