Hi welcome to the fourtieth in a series of decks I plan to build directly influenced by the amazing Get Up and Game! Perfect Match-Up series found here: https://youtu.be/1I2q3sT6FoA Please check out the channel and the video since I thought it was an amazing gift to the community and it inspired me to start playing Champions more regularly.

My goal with this series is to create a unique deck inspired by each challenge match-up in the video using all the suggested cards plus some of my own to create a deck that any player can use to check out the challenge. If you’re missing some cards from a deck please ask in the comments and I’ll do my best to find replacements from your collection so that you can have fun too! Hopefully I can build a deck that can beat the villain on both standard and expert. I’ll try to document any tweaks I made while playing the deck too.

The fortieth match-up and I think we've finally found a villain worthy of Doctor Strange in Loki! Dr. Strange games tend to be fairly one sided affairs and I found that to be increasingly not the case against Expert Loki. The trick is that Loki can have versions that can't be stunned or confused, have massively boosted attacks and thwarts, activate multiple times AND only has on scheme. My first Standard encounter was fairly Standard and Dr. Strange swiftly dispatched Loki twice. In my first Expert game I lost on the very first Villain phase! The 3 ATK Loki attacked twice doing a massive amount of damage and taking down Dr. Strange immediately. I thought I had a handle on him after that securing my first Expert win, only to then lost on Turn 2 of the villain phase the following game when he activated twice while I was in Alter-Ego and added the ENTIRE 12 threat needed to complete the main scheme. The next Expert game I had his final form down to 4 health and I had a decision to make... flip down and survive the turn or stay in Hero form and try to survive the turn. I decided to flip down and it turned out to be the wrong decision as once again he put down all 12 threat needed to win in a single tur... Thankfully I finally came back for a decisive 2nd Expert win after that where I had complete control of the board. I say all this to encourage you. Loki is tough and unpredictable. What comes out of his deck and in what order can completely swing games on a whim, so take your time and you be patient if you get smacked down.

As to the deck itself, Dr. Strange is mostly about playing Dr. Strange cards as his own cards are very powerful. So powerful in fact that I once made this deck: https://marvelcdb.com/decklist/view/13131/doctor-strange-lost-in-space-2.0 which was all unusable cards and he still beat Expert Rhino and Klaw.

To that end you will mostly be using Leadership cards to get more Dr. Strange cards, utilizing Strength In Numbers on your many in play allies. You will also use Honorary Avenger, and Sky Cycle on Cosmo and Wong along with Command Team for extra shenanigans. Extra Wong readies will really help keep your health up and your Invocation Deck humming. I will say that in two games I lost Wong to Enchantress' spells but you can swiftly dispatch him and cycle your deck to get him out again.

A quick word about Cosmo. This deck was thought up before the recent rules nerf for Cosmo that no longer allows him to use the Infinity Gauntlet or Invocation Deck. If you want to see this deck at its most powerful, you can ignore this Errata. I played all the above games using the new rules Errata however so don't worry, the deck is not dependent on him abusing this concept. One tip I have is you can use Astral Projection to know what the top card will be and then Cosmo will know as well.

Your most wanted card for the deck is Cloak of Levitation since more readying for Strange means more spells. The Eye of Agamotto is always good to have and The Sorcerer Supreme is also one of the main reasons to play Mystics in the first place. As long as you have at least 3 allies out, Strength In Numbers is great but with The Triskelion and Stinger you can have 5 out at a time. Master of the Mystic Arts is also an incredible card and can allow you to cast the same spell multiple times for some amazing combos.

I found this match-up to be one of the most fun of the entire bunch since its rare to face a villain that really keeps Dr. Strange on his toes. Loki isn't a villain I want to play every day but when I do, I think I'll grab Strange for a healthy magical challenge!
