Marvel Chumpions · 168

I wanted to build a deck that can make the Villain scared and not just minions. Protection is the way. Since Valkyrie's main minion-focused gimmick is the Death-Glow, I had to figure out a way to make it effective against the Villain and Protections offers that route.

Main Focus -> Defend well against the Villain and do big damage to them.

Summary: To make Valkyrie work, you must come to terms with what she is. Just like Hulk, you must play this Hero differently than other Heroes. Versus minions, Valkyre is easily a top 3 minion killer hero, but without minions, her deck can stall. So how do you prevent that? Great question [insert your name], the key to recreating the benefit of Death-Glow is by having Valkyre ready a ton.

Attaching Death-Glow to the Villain normally is not great, but it is key for this deck so do it when you start to set up. Focus on getting Dragonfang and Valkyrie's Spear attached so that you can attack for 4 and defend for 3. The second priorities are resource generation and Aragorn. Don't worry about Valhalla or Visit Valhalla as you won't be flipping very often and won't be using Death-Glow like Valhalla wants you to. After that, you can do whatever you want as these key pieces allow you to attack big and defend big making you a Villain nightmare. Of course, this deck is better vs. Villains with fewer minions and it is generally way better to focus on minions with her, but if you want a different way to play her, especially against Villains like Absorbing Man or Green Goblin(RB), then this may be the deck for you.

Weaknesses:

1 – If you play a scenario with lots of minions then you should play another deck.

2 – Thwart will always be a problem with Valkyrie, but there is enough thwart that you shouldn’t be desperate, the real issue would be side-schemes. Play Justice decks if you are worried about thwart.

3 – Stun can suck, but when does it not suck. Confuse could be a problem, but all her thwarts are not thwarting actions except Bait and Switch and her basic. Flight of the Valkyrie and Ever Vigilant wouldn’t be stopped by Confuse but can be stopped by the Crisis Icon (!).

Card Breakdown:

Clea – She helps you defend so you can stay ready. She can also do 1 thwart which is much needed.

Bait and Switch – Helps with thwart and getting attacked is not a big deal for Valkyrie once you attach Death-Glow to the Villain and you have the Spear.

Desperate Defense – Give you extra defense and keeps you ready for pumping out DMG

Ever Vigilant – Gets you ready and helps with thwart. You do need Aragorn in play.

Leading Blow – In my opinion, this is one of the best cards in the game. I didn’t like it when I first saw it, but it is amazing. This allows you to do potentially 5-8 DMG (unless you play with an encounter set that has 4 boost icons) to the Villain for zero cost if you have Dragonfang in play and Death-Glow on the Villain.

Never Back Down – Boost in Def. and Stuns which keeps you ready next round.

Side Step – Can keep you ready by subtracting DMG and can help with Tough

The Power of Protection - Valkyrie can use the resource help

Helicarrier & Quincarrier – Valkyrie needs the resource help

The Night Nurse - Helps heal and keep you attacking.

Armored Vest - +1 Def can make her defend for 4 with the Spear and Death-Glow.

Electrostatic Armor – This could be swapped out, but it can be nice to do a little ping DMG for tough and such.

Hard to Ignore – Helps with thwart.

Nerves of Steel – Helps with resource generation

Unflappable – Helps with resource generation

I still need to mess around with a few things, but hopefully, you will enjoy and find even better combos with this deck.
