Marvel Champions has released its newest hero and I, I mean, we have not been disappointed. That’s right Venom is here. Having gotten the pack a few days earlier than I should have I immediately jumped into playing with this hero. In my own opinion Venom seemed versatile enough to play with any aspect so I began him on protection with a deck meant to heal him so he can continue to use symbiotic bond for a free resource. I felt a little dissatisfied and believed there could be more potential to his character so I thought about what else he could run. Then I came upon aggression and it felt perfect.

Let’s first review the signature cards Venom brings to the table that makes him so unique.

  1. Multi-Gun is undoubtedly his best weapon. As it can cover deal damage, thwart or cover minions. What more do you need.
  2. Next we have two copies of Venom's Pistol. These bad boys enhance his basic powers essentially giving you a max thwart of 3, attack of 4, and defense of 4.
  3. Spider-Sense was an upgrade I had not been aware of till I opened the pack. I was thrilled to see that it doesn’t exactly what Spider-Man’s ability does. Gaining an extra card each round really helps out.
  4. I found Project Rebirth 2.0 to be another fine card. It seemed to remind me of Aunt May just with the option of drawing a card, and a bit less healing.
  5. Savage Attack is a basic damage dealing card. With a bolt we can get overkill.
  6. Behind Enemy Lines is your average thwart card. Being able to confuse the villain for a mental helps as you may find yourself flipping down due to the villain’s attack and your own damage from symbiotic bond.
  7. Grasping Tendrils is another card similar to Backflip from Spider-Man.
  8. Locked and Loaded is great early game and helps set up the stage by getting you weapons.
  9. Once you have all your weapons use Run and Gun for some insane readying turns.

That covers his hero cards so why aggression? Aggression fits best because of the interaction with Venom’s weapons that you can have.

We haven’t limited ourselves to just the weapons that Venom has. One copy of Jarnbjorn and Pulse Grenade are included putting our weapon count to 5. Two copies of Side Holsterare included insuring you can hold the 4 restricted weapons.

With five weapons at our disposal cards like Mean Swing can trigger off of Jarnbjorn. Boosting our attack by 3. We can then use "Fusillade" and exhaust the Pulse Grenade for 5 additional damage. As a general note you DONT want to exhaust any of the signature weapon cards. I would rarely use Pulse Grenade and save it for one of the event cards at your disposal. We want maximum damage output here. If we have to exhaust a signature weapon I’d advise doing Venom's Pistol as trading 1 damage for 3, or 5, is a good deal.

Keep in mind, Jarnbjorn can trigger using the free fist from symbiotic bond.

Other cards.

  1. Combat Training boost the attack by one.
  2. Skilled Strike can help out doing even more damage.
  3. Endurance and Down Time will help when you need to heal.
  4. Press the Advantage when you’ve used Behind Enemy Lines or Grasping Tendrils for another cards.
  5. Helicarrier makes paying for cards that much easier.

Allies

  1. Bug is your best friend. With how much attack you should be doing he will be on the board from start to finish.
  2. Ironheart is your basic good ally to have.
  3. Brawn provides helpful thwart.

I would advise using all your allies to thwart and let Venom handle damage.

Hope you enjoy Venom as much as I do.

Love your deck!

We seem to have built among the same lines, glad I'm not the only one who thought about Jarnbjorn!

Thanks @neothechosen To me it made sense to use symbiotic bond to trigger Jarnbjorn. My other idea was to do a stun/confuse deck. But I feel as though status card decks are becoming less powerful as more villains are gaining stalwart or even the new “steady” key word that will be released in the Hood scenario. What are your thoughts?
