Phoenix has always looked good in Red.
I recently acquired the Psylocke pack, and the card that excited me most for other characters is The Power of the Mind for Jean Grey, who has so many Psionic trait cards in her kit that this specialized Energy source is always going to be generating value. Being one of only two Psionic characters, another unique card in Jean's kit is Psychic Assault, one of Aggression's only ways to cause Confusion and thus synchronizing perfectly with the fun but difficult to fit in Press the Advantage card.
Of course, when you start running all of those mental resources in Aggression, you've got to also be considering Honed Technique as a possible option. And while Phoenix Suit isn't a card I'm jumping to play every time, it does give Jean access to Dive Bomb. Honed Dive Bomb is exactly the kind of board-wiping destruction that seems thematic for Dark Phoenix. Warrior Skill and Aggressive Stance give us some extra mental resources and play key functions, letting Jean get most out of her attacks and giving her an easy way to access those niche attack events.
One other key trait of Phoenix is being able to make maximized use of Cerebro, able to instantly call allies like Wolverine, Magik and Professor X to her hand when she needs them as long as they are in her deck. Psylocke fits into very neatly into everything the deck wants to do anyway. And of course, we've got Utopia included so that we can get maximum utility out of those allies and make use of Jean's phenomenal thwarting stat as often as we can.
