Deck Description

Do you like delivering payload after payload of pain?

This deck does one thing damage. Killing everything has never been easier by taking advantage or what Rhodey already does, and adding in Firepower. Firepower lets you exhaust weapons to deal damage, meaning the humble Missile Launcher (previously only a so-so card) can now be repurposed for more boom boom.

Rhodey has two issues: setup and economy.

Setup

War Machine can be slow as molasses early on, and needs to get his pieces in place before he can go off. Leo Fitz helps this quite a bit. Face the Past draws cards at the expense of a weak minion to dig for what you need, and Yellow Jacket will help you look for upgrades as you need them.

We did bring a lot of weapons, because that's what we do. Jarnbjorn, Plasma Pistol, and Bambino are all weapons, and they can be used for firepower or to deal damage in other ways. Plasma Pistol and Bambino can also be found with Leo Fitz since they are tech. Lock and Load can help get anything you're missing into play--just ask a friend to thwart for you.

Economy

War Machine has two economies to balance: 1) spending resources to play cards, and 2) the Bang Bang Bucks™. Bang Bang Bucks™ are a proprietary form of currency that can only be spent on War Machine events.

  1. Find minions with Looking for Trouble, which will thwart a bit. Angela can help you get minions to the table as well. Spider-Girl can stun and confuse some really nasty ones if you can't kill them. Having minions will help your cost curve a bit since Man on the Wall can help you pay for cards. And, if you kill enough minions, you can draw a bunch of cards when you flip down with Hall of Heroes. Generally you're flipping fairly often with Rhodey to boost the Bang Bang Bucks™ you have in reserve.

  2. Firepower can help split damage to kill more minions faster, and Aggressive Energy makes it do even more bang bang per Bang Bang Buck™. Firepower also can exhaust the Gauntlet Gun if you don't need it to play a signature event--you often don't need both Gauntlets in one turn. If you're out of ammo, exhaust the Gauntlets for Firepower! This is a big boost to the Bang Bang Buck™ economy.

(Firepower can be recycled with Assault Training during your regular trips to Alter-Ego to stock up your Bang Bang Bucks™ on the Munitions Bunker.)

And since Shoulder Cannon is an attack, it can trigger Pitchback, which is another good way to get damage without needing signature events or Bang Bang Bucks™. This makes Rhodey one of the best candidates for Pitchback, since he doesn’t have to basic attack, or play an attack event, or even spend a Bang Bang Bucks™!

Aggressive Energy boosts all of your damage, so don't be afraid to spend it to play your attack events, and ignore your Gauntlets even if they are ready. Push that damage!

When you're ready to go for the kill, clear Keep Up the Pressure and the whole table can go pew pew together, and finish the game. You can't take it with you, so spend all those Bang Bang Bucks™ in your final push to prove that the military industrial complex is alive and well.
