Another Winning Hand deck design challenge, another deck from me. I will own up to not really having explored my options with Toe to Toe before. I do tend to play somewhat conservatively when it come to cards that generate additional villain activations, so it is not one that I have used much, which makes this a good challenge for me to push my comfort zone.

While this deck might work in solo as a rushdown deck, I don't think that is it's strength. It fares much better paired with other decks that help manage threat and damage. It has a pretty basic structure which is to drop Frostbite cards on the villain, and then either using Toe to Toe bait the villain into attacking at reduced damage, then eating 5 damage, or to set up bigger hits from Take That! and Arctic Attack.

Doing this is going to mean attacking/defending with iceman and then playing the appropriate cards or using multiple card combinations to get the frostbites in play and then follow up with your damage cards. The more activations we have, the better, so we bring in Cryokinetic Perception along with some old school Core Set help in the form of Tenacity and #Enhanced Physique. Yes, Tenacity. It's not a strong card but here is offers the chance to ready when stunned or forced to defend and still set up your damage cards.

For economy, we already have Enhanced Physique, but we add in Deft Focus, Power Belt, and 2 copies of Team-Building Exercise. While two may seem like overkill, it is a super valuable card in Iceman's deck, it helps guarantee it comes out sooner, and on good turns, you may even use both of them.

Unless you are going up against a very low damage villain or have an excellent protection teammate, you are going to be eating some damage, so expect to end up in alter-ego every few turns. Turn this into an opportunity to recycle some key Iceman cards with Mutant Education and X-Mansion.

I'm with you @lackofsubtelty... I have a hard time accepting activation cards (Toe to Toe and Swift Retribution and even Get Behind Me!) as a good deal. You pay your effective resources to make the villain do something that you don't want them to do. Rather than playing Toe to Toe, I'd rather pay 1 more effective resources for Relentless Assault or Fusillade, both of which do 5 damage with no enemy activation.

@boomguy Thanks! and thanks for the podcast!

@Footballcoach I do feel that as the game as grown, the utility of these types of cards have improved, but with limited space in the deck, they still have to struggle pretty hard to find their way in.
