Wait, T'Challa, why would you ever want do to that? Isn't a shield supposed to prevent incoming damage? Well, that's usually the case - but not for Scott Summers.
For Cyclops, when he looks at the new Energy Shield card, all he sees is an Upgrade that can be attached to "a character." Not just "a friendly character", but ANY character. There have been lots of minion attachment upgrades that have helped Cyclops over the years, but Energy Shield is the first non-identity specific upgrade that can be attached to the villain! This will give you a consistent target for Optic Blast, that will remain there the entire game!
That's just the fancy new toy for the deck - the other great combo is Rogue & Wolverine. Want to save Wolverine from taking 2 consequential damage for his 3 attack? Have Rogue ping him for 1, so she swings for 5, then he heals that up next round.
Or...hey, there are 2 more Energy Shields here. Place the other two on Rogue and Logan, and prevent that damage when you can with an Energy resource generated from The X-Jet.
The other allies serve to help get all this online. Forge gets you supports that help you find allies, or buff them up. Pixie will grab Rogue & Wolvie if you happen to discard them. Professor X and Gentle are two other great targets for Rogue to touch.

Apr 26, 2025Just be careful playing this around Kennedy Hawk who might race you to get that Energy Shield on the villain and try to prevent your damage. Great use of Energy Shield btw |

I also asked Tony about the interaction and he basically shrugged and said it was unintended, but go for it! So, I don’t anticipate any sort of errata for my silly little combo. |
