What's the most outlandish, unrealistic thing in the Marvel universe? Is it the talking raccoon with a genius-level intellect? Is it the existence of an entire mutant race with incredible and varied abilities? Is it the famed Infinity Gauntlet, armed with the potential to rewrite time and existence as we know it on a whim?
Well, no. I think an ethical billionaire has all that beat.
This is my first attempt at crafting a deck for Tony Stark/Iron Man with my current collection of cards. The deck has a few objectives in mind:
-Consistently prevent damage and trigger additional benefits when damage is prevented. Cards like Electrostatic Armor, Energy Barrier, Armored Vest, and others help us achieve this. Indomitable and Desperate Defense allow us to sustain continued Basic Defends.
-To help offset Iron Man's very low base defense stat, I've also pumped his health to a little more than double its starting value thanks to Endurance, Mark V Armor, and the two copies of Rocket Boots.
-This health pool gives us an effective buffer to use Fighting Fit and Dauntless-- the latter of which combined with Electrostatic Armor causes anyone who attacks us to take at minimum 2 damage when we defend, regardless of whether Iron Man takes damage himself. If damage does seep through, this will trigger Energy Barrier to give us another ping of damage and prevent a touch of it, too.
-We keep Iron Man synergized with his kit through consistent use of Rocket Boots. Enhanced Awareness provides some insurance as a stable supply of Mental resources to trigger Rocket Boots. Through this, we gain the Aerial trait, which boosts Iron Man's kit massively, providing the flexibility to deal damage and minimize threat.
-We bring in a few crucial allies throughout the game, primarily to help deal with threat management or to chump block if our kit isn't up and running. Iron Man has to stay in alter-ego early on, so having an ally out in this stage can be a lifesaver. Med Team will get us extra use out of our allies to maximize the timeframe we have to get fully online.
-Finally, we deal big bursts of damage through Repulsor Blast and Supersonic Punch. I designed this deck so that the majority of cards are Energy resources, which makes Repulsor Blast much more likely to deal solid damage. This is essential to the deck as three copies of the card are a mandatory include from Iron Man's hero kit-- so we may as well make the most of them. Supersonic Punch is a more consistent damage method: if we have the Aerial trait (through Rocket Boots), it comes out to 8 damage for 2 resources.
