Why this deck?

A year ago, I made a Shadowcat Pool deck called Intangible Blackout. It revolved around using Kitty's Phased form to mitigate the riskier elements of 'Pool. It was a cool idea, but admittedly it was not the best execution. I published it when 'Pool was still new, and I was not as experienced in building decks. So I decided to take another crack at it, and I ended up with a much stronger deck!

Live a Little!

This deck is built around playing Live Dangerously, and KEEPING it in play! When testing verses expert Klaw, I played it turn 1 and easily kept it in play all game, along with the Symbiote Suit without any issues! This card powers the rest of the deck. It unlocks the full power of "I Got This" and makes it one of the highest value cards in the game. It also fully charges the Laser Swords, which can be used with all of the readying cards in the deck to slice clean through villains. In solo, the threat is actually quite manageable...though it can be a bit dangerous at times. (But hey, that's the point, right?) In multiplayer, threat is harder to clear, but the benefits are greater. All players draw 2 extra cards, and the acceleration and hazard icons feel less impactful.

Threat management

In solo, the threat isn't too hard to keep down, even with crisis icons out. While in Phased form, you ignore crisis. So early game, you will be using your basic thwart on the main scheme a lot. "I Got This" is also fantastic for clearing threat through crisis. Since it isn't an attack or thwart, you can use it while stunned/confused, and it won't take you out of phased. Use your extra readying from Utopia, Shadowcat Surprise, and Stick-To-Itiveness to remove more threat if needed. Doing this for your last activation will also let you end in phased form, so that you are safe to block in the villain phase. Your allies won't be able to bypass crisis, so they can be used instead to attack or clear any side schemes you don't want out.

Distraction is a very cheap and easy way to shut off minions. Unfortunately it doesn't work on elites, otherwise it would be a perfect answer to Dreadpool!

Card Swaps and Multiplayer Considerations

You may want to throw Gambit in here. In my testing, he kept wiffing and only pulling 1 boost cards. So for punishment, he is going back into the box. I also had Synch and Stepford Cuckoos in the early version of this deck. Synch can buff Shadowcats thwart, which is great while she's in Phased form. She just felt too expensive just for that purpose. The Cuckoos can get rid of treacheries- which we don't like, and hopefully let you draw minions and side schemes- which this deck can handle very well (or just straight up ignore). Again, it just didn't make the final cut. Shadowcat loves Barely a Scratch, as it lets her block all damage in phased form without exhausting. I didn't find it necessary here at all, but try it if you'd like. Specialized Training is very hard to clear in solo, and its especially tough if you already have Live Dangerously out and don't want to remove it. The benefit you would get from the extra +1 thwart is very high, but in solo you may want to swap it with something else, like another ally.

Adjust the resources to your preference. If you aren't a big fan of the 'Pool resources, swap them for their basic counterparts. I've found that I can usually keep my health high enough for them to at least count as doubles, but in rare cases they end up as single resources when your health is low.

I did most of the testing in solo, but I did some 2 player as well. I think 2 player is about the limit for managing threat without some help. Higher player counts would require coordination. A justice player that can play Heroic Intuition on Shadowcat and some Crisis Averted would really help!

I just had to sneak one more Utopia deck in there before we moved on to S.H.I.E.L.D. stuff! xD Let me know what you think about it in the comments!

@boomguy Thanks! I've always liked her with Pool, but I found the threat a bit hard to handle. Utopia solves that problem for her

I'm a sucker for decks that ready a ton and I love making laser swords/Symbiote Suit work. This looks fun, good stuff!

@Castlefrank47 YES! Ending the game by attacking 4 times with 7 ATK is so satisfying

@HeroicSkeleton absolutely! I haven't tried Shadowcat in pool but I did have an x-23 deck that used plot convenience to hold live dangerously until you had Claw Mastery and laser swords which had a similar game ending strategy
