Oh, you just want a write-up for how the deck works?

Let's Do This One Last Time

Hi, I'm Miles Morales, and I was bitten by a radioactive... hey, you know this. I'm the one, and only, Spider-Man. Uh... just ignore all of that. Wait, where are you going? Oh, you don't want my life story? You just want to know how the deck works? You have no joy in your li- hey, hey, come back! Ok, I'm sorry. Here you go.

Let's Do This One Last More Time

I'm Miles, and if I sound lazy, just ignore my tone; I'm always gonna answer when you call my phone. (Boom, did it! Had it both ways). Anyway, here's the deck in a clearly organised way:

Didn't Know They Doubted Us

This is primarily a multi-player deck but can definitely function solo. It requires a lot of forward thinking and planning ahead, but Double Life and Cell Phone provide some great utility in multiplayer settings to flip and activate mid turn. In solo play, Cell Phone is still a solid option to get 1 more out of your basic thwart/attack actions. The best thing you can do with those actions is Defense Mechanism and Power Within. And if that's all you need to know how to play the deck, that's great! If you want to learn more, oh.. there's more.

I Like Tall Buildings so I Can Leap Off of Em

Miles has a lot of great cards, but we're hyper-focusing on a few key pieces here:

  • Double Life: flip and keep shuffling in Defense Mechanism or Power Within. Shuffling in Web-Shooter or your other copy of Double Life is always a solid option as well. Just remember that you can't play Double Life and shuffle that card you shuffled in.
  • Ganke Lee: Every time you're in Alter-Ego it gives you an extra card, which you should achieve almost every turn thanks to the normal flipping and Double Life. Even if you aren't in alter-ego, it provides some filtering by drawing a card and discarding your worst card. Champions Mobile Bunker is another option to help this strategy along.
  • Defense Mechanism and Power Within: after Miles performs a basic action, you can trigger one of his specials. 2 damage and a stun or a confuse and a tough for Miles are very strong, and we want to trigger these as often as possible. You can also trigger them with Swing In and Web-Shot, but occasionally you'll default to Arachnobatics for the extra damage. It's very easy to lock down the villain already.

I Go Hard With it No Matter How Dark It Is

This is a mostly basic deck, as most Web-Warrior-focused decks tend to be, but there are some key card choices, and a very specific reason it's in 'Pool (besides, you know, that movie that just came out. Hey, didn't you laugh whe- Oh, right, the write-up. And hey, no spoileys!)

  • Web-Warriors
  • Web of Life and Destiny: This is the fuel for this strategy. Those pesky Web-Warriors are going to be swinging in and out of play a lot, and you're going to draw lots of cards every time. Plus, you'll get an ATK boost from Warrior of the Great Web. Very useful with all that readying available. SP//dr makes all of this absolutely sing with a bounce to hand, drawing a card, getting an ATK boost, and she can do this every round. With Team-Building Exercise, you can even play her out of turn. With Cell Phone you can even thwart or attack with her out of turn. What can't Peni do? (Play Warrior of the Great Web, that's what)
  • Ghost-Spider finds you any identity-specific event when she is defeated. Double Life is the premier choice for this strategy, but of course be aware of other options (5-8 damage from Arachnobatics; 4 threat removal, confuse, and a tough from Swing In, or 6 damage and a stun from Web-Shot. Weight your options and check the board state. Will you actually be able to get the stun? Do you need a tough right now? Arachnobatics at 5 is still really solid damage.)
  • Hope Summers. Not a Web-Warrior. OR IS SHE? (She is... as long as she's in play). And honestly, that's all that matters for Web of Life and Destiny. She even has it while you're in Alter-Ego as long as you have Warrior of the Great Web on board. But why are we playing her? She can grab any SUPERPOWER card ('card', not 'event'), and while Miles only has two, they are temporary and very useful for this strategy: Defense Mechanism and Power Within.
  • There's various other Spiders worth mentioning. Peter Parker can ready Miles; Cell Phone can ready him out of turn; another Cell Phone can activate Miles. Thankfully we bought a family plan. Scarlet Spider just draws some cards. He's great. Hobie Brown takes double consequential from thwarting and deals upwards of some damage when he leaves play. Keep all of that in mind when choosing Cell Phone targets.
  • Get Rage-y is especially strong here with Hobie or Peni since they can activate twice in a single round and defeat themself immediately. You lose a little bit of value with Peni since you want to attack first, but it's still worth a lot of value if there are other pieces on the board. It also allows Peter to activate again and ready Miles.
  • Across the Spider-Verse can easily pay for the above spiders-people (except Hope; she isn't a Web-Warrior while in your discard unfortunately). Easily pays for expensive 3-4 cost allies, the requirements of Peter Parker, or gets SP//dr back in play to keep the loop going. Also super gamer move: play more than 3 if you have the resources and just discard them. You can do some fun things like trigger Hobie or Gwen multiple times.
  • Otto Octavius gets his own bullet point because he can't trigger his ability from Across the Spider-Verse. Makes sense. He is the superior spider-man after all who doesn't just do everyone else does. What he does do... does, do. Yes, that's correct. Anyway, he readies an upgrade. Fun with Cell Phone! More calls! Fun with Web-Shooter! More resources! Drawing a card‽ Using an interrobang‽ That's the kind of high-brow stuff I'm lookin for.

Swimmin With Sharks When They Ain't Feed Yet

One big economy piece has already been mentioned: Web of Life and Destiny, but there are others.

  • Build Support: absolute broken card. Who tested this, anyway? Ganke Lee or Web of Life and Destiny are usually the best options (even though Web is free when played normally... it's just that good for the deck).

  • Champions Mobile Bunker doesn't draw extra cards, but it does help filter your hand. Don't have the right resources for Swing In or Web-Shot? Don't have a for Rock, Paper, Scissors? It's here to help your sculpt your hand to make it more playable.

  • Helicarrier premier resource generation and perfect with Build Support. Help reduce the cost of other players' cards, and help you get Swing In or Web-Shot if all you have is The Power in All of Us.

  • Team-Building Exercise might not seem like the best option with only so many targets in the deck, just 5 allies and Champions Mobile Bunker. Web of Life and Destiny already costs nothing. Hope doesn't get the discount since she isn't a Web-Warrior in your hand. Spider-Man can't be played because you need to pay the requirement. However, SP//dr will bounce to hand every round, and it helps with the theme of the deck of playing cards out of turn. Really, we're just looking at anything we can get before picking Jefferson Davis. Seriously, who tested this stuff?

  • Specialized Training: go for Surveillance Specialist or Combat Specialist. The other two simply aren't going to help you very much. If you desperately need to because there's a whiney Aggression or sensitive Justice player, go for Defense Specialist cos you might actually defend. Front Line Specialist simply isn't going to trigger all that often for you due to Spider Camouflage.

  • Self Confidence, Self Control, and Self Preservation replace the basic doubles, and they're almost always providing 3 resources for Miles due to his natural resistance to damage. This also allows us to include The Power in All of Us for some extra icons in the deck.

  • Rock, Paper, Scissors, Lizard, Spock: so there's a strategy here. There are 5 in the deck (not counting RPS itself), but you can dig with Mobile Bunker, draw with Ganke, your Specialist upgrade, etc. and try to dig for a wild. In lieu of that, basically never pick and usually pick . There's some complicated math stuff if you care about that: 13 , 12 , and 9 in the deck. If you choose Mental, there's a fairly high chance you'll get an Energy compared to Physical (what you don't want). If you choose Energy, there's a very good chance you'll get Mental instead of Physical (what you do want). If you choose Physical, there's a roughly even chance you get Mental or Energy (and well, it's just a 50/50 at that point). Special thanks to @tjjj for convincing me to go with this one.

slumber party

I Have a Slumber Party With All My Foes

Alter-Ego is going to be a huge part of playing Miles. There are a few important things to keep in mind.

  • You can't shuffle the Double Life you just played back into your deck (since it isn't in your discard when you trigger his ability). Thankfully, there's two copies, so you could shuffle the other one in if you already have it. Defense Mechanism and Power Within are the most important targets for this deck strategy. That obviously changes with different decks and different strategies.
  • Don't forget about the ready from Double Life! It can save your life (literally). Unfortunately, Cell Phone only works with thwarts and attacks and not recovers, so you can't recover out of turn, but definitely recover if you need to.
  • You can't change forms on someone else's turn with Double Life, so make sure to use your normal per-turn flip on your own turn. If you start the round in Alter-Ego and have Double Life in hand, flip up at the start of the round and activate if you need to. You can flip back down to Alter-Ego later on your own turn.
  • Extending from the above, if you plan to end your turn in Alter-Ego, shuffling Double Life back into your deck is one of the best options in hopes of drawing it that round.
  • Save Ganke Lee for when you flip to Alter-Ego so you can keep the card, but don't be afraid to use it to filter your hand. Use Champions Mobile Bunker first just to see if you get a Double Life or something. If both Double Lives are in your discard, use Ganke first, then Bunker so you get to see more cards when you make your final choice.

If I'm crazy, I'm on my own

There were a lot of cards considered that were ultimately removed.

Stick-To-Itiveness: really great for getting even more activations, but the those turns where you get a bunch of Warrior of the Great Web procs really are quite few and far between. You're already using Cell Phone for boosts on your actions and performing them out of turn, plus your allies. They get stretched pretty thin that it just wasn't a priority. I also just wanted Peter to leave play so I could draw cards. Defense Mechanism and Power Within are already so strong. You don't really need to perform that many basic actions in a round. So off it went.

Float Like a Butterfly. This was briefly considered in Justice instead of 'Pool. The problem is relying so heavily on Swing In and Defense Mechanism. It could probably work, but would likely need to change quite drastically and become a much different deck. It would open up the possibility of all those Justice Web-Warriors though.

Blood Rage. It was even considered in Aggression! Blood Rage triggering out of turn just seemed really fun. It doesn't play well with Spider Camouflage though since the tough prevents you from drawing the card. Again, could still work, and likely a much different deck.

The thing I like most about this is it also works with No Doubt's song:

Sorry I'm not home right now I'm walking into spiderwebs So leave a message And I'll call you back

@Caldias i feel so silly that i didn't see that connection already. maybe new deck idea for Ghost-Spider?? honestly doesn't sound too bad haha. ready mid-turn and then use cell phone to attack/thwart

Start a Riot from the movie soundtrack is part of my gym playlist, whole soundtrack is amazing. Love the idea of getting out all the phones, activating Miles, then Peter to ready Miles, then Miles again all out of turn. I've got two three phones!

@journeyman2 that's awesome haha. honestly the whole soundtrack is great. Start a Riot, Save the Day, Elevate, and What's Up Danger definitely get me so hyped though
