Okay, so I don’t know if the last one is true, but if he is, I suspect that he would like this deck. It has everything you need to be successful in Justice. This is a control style deck, where you keep the board clear, set up your resource generators, and unleash on the villain when you feel like it. There’s plenty of resources out there as well. Once your set up, you’ll reliably be drawing 1-4 cards, and generating 4 resources. You’ll be playing anywhere from 3 – 5 cards a round, keeping the board clear, multitasking while you toy with the villain.
This deck was originally conceived to deal with some of the more difficult content in the game. It has successful beaten expert Magneto and toyed with expert Loki, expert Red Skull and expert Juggernaut. Venom Goblin is going to be a tough one for this deck as there isn’t any great way to get rid of the advance glider (unless you add in a few Basic attack events). Although not tested against Ronan the Accuser (I just don’t enjoy playing against him), I have little doubt that it can get the job done.
Notes:
- Iceman wants to attack and gets plenty of bonuses for doing so. His low thwarting isn’t an issue because of the volume of thwarting events (10!) in this deck. Simply play an event card, clear the threat and there’s still space to attack in some fashion. Clear the board, do some damage and move on.
- When additional thwarting is needed, there are allies that can do a bit of everything. Professor X can get you a ready or confuse the villain. Nick Fury, can get you some cards, take a shot, and do a bit of thwarting/attacking. Beak is great for an initial burst of threat removal, and Machine Man can take care of whatever you need using the abundance of resources at your disposal. Legion is just plain fun (on a random side note, in my match against Loki, he came out in round 4ish and remained for the rest of the game because he kept drawing a fist card at the perfect time). Hope Summers is a bit of an interesting choice because of how expensive she is. But, resources aren’t a problem for us and her ability to Tudor a superpower card is just so useful.
- There are four different ways to stun/confuse the villain in this deck, which in my testing, was more than enough. If you want more, feel free to drop in another Sonic Rifle, Concussive Blow, or Mockingbird. His Arctic Attack card is so powerful though, that I found I rarely needed any more than this.
- For Specialized Training, there are several good options, although I found the attack one to be the most useful. Just don’t do the thwart one. You’ll rarely use Iceman’s basic thwart because his attack bonuses are so nice. Build Support is also another one that could be changed out, although I like it in there as it helps to thin out the deck. In that regard, additional consideration could also be given to Superpower Training just to help thin out the deck even more.
- He has enough attack events in his kit that minions weren’t typically a problem. Once Specialized Training is out, you’ll be attacking for three, adding a Frostbite, which in conjunction with an attack event or snow clone, is more than enough to take out a minion.
- This is not a difficult deck to play at all. Round 1, mulligan hard for a resource generator (it doesn’t really matter which one), clear the board and repeat. Once you have your second or third generator out and a clear board, you’ve pretty much won. Sit back, turn on your favorite movie and watch as the villain can do very little that you can’t remove.
- There were several cards that could be used to modify this deck. I'm a big believer that any deck needs to be adjusted for the villain that you are working against. If you want to turn him into an even bigger resource beast, he can run Deft Focus or X-Gene. Moira MacTaggert is another great card as you’ll be flipping a fair amount of times. It just wasn’t as reliable for him as the other card draws. One Way or Another is also a great possibility because he has so many threat removal options. It was left out in the original version because it was used to test against Magneto, whose side schemes have some nasty when defeated effects that made it not worth it. Against other villains, it's a great addition. Just drop out a justice event and you can add as you wish.
- This is my first deck on Marvel CDB, so feedback is always welcome. I hope you enjoy!
