True Solo: Expert Villains: Normal Campaign Rules: CLEARED

ToneeTales · 5010

The Deck I used to clear a Campaign run of Sinister Motives in True Solo using Expert Villains and Normal Campaign Rules.

If you want to Play Ghost Spider in protection through the campaign but are afraid that the pre-con won't get the job done then this deck has you covered. It combines events and upgrades that maximize her hero ability with a splash of the web warrior trait theme.

I recommend using allies for thwarting and attacking rather than chump blocking because ghost spider wants to defend for herself once per villain phase. Allies can be saved for emergency blocks or when you need card draw from Web of Life. The extra activation from allies help her maintain control of side schemes and minions between ghost kicks and phantom flips.

Ghost-Spider + Defience = Chef's Kiss

I'm surprised there isn't an Across the Spider-Verse in here. Making Peter Parker as many times as possible is pretty sweet! Never the less, grats on clearing expert =)

Like it! Still waiting on my copy to try these decks out :( Can't wait!

Apr 09, 2022 ToneeTales · 5010

@Saan Yeah for sure! You could include into the spider verse in any deck with the new Peter Parker ally and it would make the deck stronger. The reason I didn't include it here is that I had already played that combo in most of my other decks. It doesn't fit the theme here which is meant to showcase Ghost spider being one of the best defenders in the game without crippling her offensive capabilities. The allies are here for thwarting in between Gwen's phantom flips and providing card draw when she needs it through Web of Life and Destiny.

@josserooabsolutely. I think Defiance is the best aspect card for Ghost Spider. Most of the time it's providing an undamaged defense, readies her, draws her cards from Web Bracelet and Unflappable, and avoids all those nasty boost effects.

Apr 09, 2022 ToneeTales · 5010

@neothechosen I'm super impatient so I understand the pain. :( It's worth the wait though :)

Fantastic deck! I gotta try this out.

Apr 12, 2022 Morphx2 · 1

Alternative for hard to ignore? I have it all but galaxy most wanted. :(

Apr 12, 2022 ToneeTales · 5010

@Morphx2 You could proxy it. Otherwise jump flip accomplishes a similar objective you just have to be careful about when you use it so you don’t defend, don’t take damage and then can’t ready your hero.

Thanks! Great youtube content too

I made a very similar deck last night, and did a test play through. I agree with Defiance and Expert Defense. I played with Never Back Down and Preemptive Strike, but I think the 1 resource cost was a little much for her to pay in the early game before she's all setup. You often then end up with 4 cards in the hero phase and that's just not enough to do anything.

I think I'll be switching these cards out for their cheaper versions.

I was highly amused to see Spider-Man listed three times in a row in the Ally list!

Apr 13, 2022 flakbait42 · 15

I've played this deck a few times now and I'm blown away by how good it is. I think villains have landed attacks on me like twice over four games. Working my way through the Sinister campaign now, but this is the most fun I've had with the game in a while.

Apr 14, 2022 ToneeTales · 5010

@flakbait42 that's great to hear! I had a similar experience where Ghost spider's defense with the right build is almost TOO good.

Apr 14, 2022 ToneeTales · 5010

@Judicator82 yeah it's bit odd, but hopefully we'll get even MORE neutral Spider-mans

Apr 14, 2022 ToneeTales · 5010

@SignificantFigure That mirrors my experience with Ghost spider and 1 cost defense events. I think it functions better in multiplayer where you have more time to set up a Nerves of Steel, and are seeking to block for multiple players with cards like Never Back Down.

Apr 15, 2022 GeekMate · 1

how do you deal with the Advance Glider in the last scenario of the expansion? Having only 3 attack events in the all deck makes the attachment almost impossible to remove... Keeping it is a 99% chance of game over. Thanks for the answer and congratulation for the deck i had a lot of fun with it till this scenario which crush me every time.

Apr 15, 2022 fordream · 1

@ToneeTales Thank you for the incredible deck list, I've been pushing a true solo campaign on standard II / expert II, normal ruleset, and I've made it to goblin venom. So far I'm 0-4 against him, but I'm hoping with more knowledge and experience of the encounter I can get there.

This list is really powerful, and I hope everyone has fun playing it. Gwen's hero design is easily one of the best in MC. Cheers and take care.

Apr 16, 2022 ToneeTales · 5010

@fordream awesome, sounds like you are a great player! Goblin Venom is a huge difficulty spike compared to the rest of the campaign (which is unfortunate). You can't really gain control of the scenario, especially with Gwen. so you have to quickly build up your end game burst damage quickly and catch a some luck.

Apr 16, 2022 ToneeTales · 5010

@GeekMate The advance glider is a powerly designed card IMO, it's very difficult for some aspect/hero pairings and punishes you so hard if you can't deal with it quickly. If that is the main obstacle you could include a big attack event in the campaign as your "out of aspect" card. I also suggest using Nick fury as your opening card and really using that opening muligan to find those set-up pieces (George, 1 Web braclet, Unflappable). From there it's just try not to get overwhelmed while you set up your big end game damage (George stacy with a ghost kick, and ticket to the multiverse). It still will probably take some luck.

Good luck man! :)

Apr 16, 2022 GeekMate · 1

`@ToneeTales Thanks for the answer and thank you for sharing all that ! It's really cool to discuss about it with you ! till now, the best opening i had is with :

  • Phantom Flip as my opening card
  • Enraged Symbiote as the choosen minion
  • Joy Ride as the choosen side scheme So i start with basic attack from Spider Ghost to kill the Enraged Symbiote, i use Phantom Flip to discard Joy Ride it removes the two token on Public Outcry and leave me with a clear board and a usable Ghost Spider

Speaking from the villain's point of view, this deck is unfair!!! Man, o man, is this a cool cool deck. Can't wait to try it out, I mean, er... to beat it...

Apr 17, 2022 The_Wall · 127

What out of aspect card will you take as your 9 reputation reward? With Miles justice I took Silk to really lean in to the web warrior theme (Web of Life and Destiny was my planning ahead).

Here its less obvious, I guess maybe Godslayer?

@GeekMate You can overcome Advanced Glider by defending twice using Dizzying Reflexes, and if you have to then simply use Ghost Kick or Phantom Flip in the villain phase (defend is a basic power). As long as he doesn't get We Are One then you can take it. And Symbiotic Monstrosity boost doesn't wreck you as much as it does others. This deck has a lot of effects that happen on defend so it isn't like you're just treading water.

Speaking of which, I like cutting to one copy of Unflappable and choosing it for Planning Ahead.

Asking with no experience or knowledge of the deck so I'm not sure how it works but is Nerves of Steel not needed in here then with how the deck runs? This looks really fun, I love protection but find it so difficult to solo with, maybe this deck can be the answer =)

Apr 26, 2022 FrancesTheBard · 1

Why no all 3 Hard to Ignore?

Apr 27, 2022 ToneeTales · 5010

@FrancesTheBard If you are playing multiplayer you can add more as more threat will be added per turn. In True-solo you only really need one in play, the reason you have two is that a card like Hard to ignore incurs a minor tempo hit when you play it (provides no immediate benefit). Having two copies increases your chance of getting it early, but also you can pass on it if you need to play other things the turn you draw it.

Apr 27, 2022 ToneeTales · 5010

@Stephens3012 Nerves of steel is a great resource generator when you have 1 cost defensive traited events. It also provides triggers the bonus for paying with energy resources on many defense cards. In this deck, all your defense events are 0 cost so you don't need nerves of steel. Ghost spider is definitely one of the best heroes for solo protection.

May 02, 2022 japanimaniac · 15

@The_Wall I was thinking of adding Skilled Strike as a cheap way to untap during the Player Phase. I just wish I didn't have to include the the max copies.

May 06, 2022 Stephens3012 · 1

Hey, I have 2 ruling questions if anyone is able to give me a hand.

  1. If you are stunned, can you still attempt to make a basic attack to trigger ghost kick?
  2. I read somewhere that you couldn't use both defiance and expert defence on the same attack, is that true?

Finally got round to testing this myself. Once she is set up she gets a lot done =) I found thwarting quite difficult though since you are fairly reliant on allies and I struggled a bit to get allies out consistently since most of them are 3 or 4 cost.

May 07, 2022 Telcontar · 407

@Stephens3012 1. No, the stun cancels out the 'use' of the basic power. 2. That's incorrect - multiple interrupts may be triggered by the same trigger.

May 08, 2022 PaulC · 1

I'm gonna try this deck out this evening for the campaign after beating Sandman with aggression Ghost Spider last night. Does it need a night nurse? Being stunned against Sandman last night was awful.

May 10, 2022 ToneeTales · 5010

@PaulC You could definitely add Night Nurse. I don't typically run Night Nurse unless I am playing multiplayer because games go longer and there are more encounter cards drawn each turn meaning more chances for players to get stun/confuse. Stun can shut Gwen down pretty hard, but that's what the copy of "What doesn't Kill me" is for.

I tend not to like cards that aren't guaranteed to pay off such as "target acquired", "spycraft", or in this case "night nurse". You are essentially paying in advance and then hoping for a minor net gain if the bad thing does happen. It's not a bad play per say but not personally my play style. Night nurse is better in the sense that she can always just heal you, but you probably won't take enough damage to the point where healing is actually outcoming the end of the game.

There isn't that much stun and confuse in this campaign from my experience, but again, Night nurse is a unique card so it's only taking up one slot. You can easily trade it out for the "What doesn't Kill me" and I think the deck will be roughly the same, but may suit your playstyle better :).

May 10, 2022 ToneeTales · 5010

@Stephens3012 If you are having a hard time paying for those expensive allies, you can always trade them out for cheaper ones (clea, starhawk, ironheart). It will provide you more consistent thwart, but you'll lose some of the theme of the deck.

I also really like how the Web Warrior allies function in this deck. You can play them and then have them sit around until you need thwarting or need card draw from "Web of Life and Destiny". So you get those resources back when you want them. The great thing about Ghost spider is she isn't dependent on Chump blocking so you can use those last activations for thwarting when you need them.

What would play in a Gwen protection Multiplayer deck?

May 20, 2022 Cosmic_Outlaw · 1

I love Ghost-Spider but I feel like she's so upgrade and support heavy. From my 20 matches or so I was never able to have Bracelets and Unflappable up until everything was already over basically, hence her card draw is pretty average up to this point. I often relied on my team mates to do the heavy lifting and only rarely chimed in with her hero events. George Stacy fucked me too many times than did help me, too.

May 23, 2022 Stephens3012 · 1

The new doc oc spiderman that comes out in the sp dr set will be a nice boost for the deck

May 25, 2022 Vortilion · 193

What would the multiplayer version look like? Im really curious about this deck but want to play it in multiplayer... We are 2 players.

Jul 28, 2022 Danipenn · 1

@Stephens3012 Ghost kick triggers when you use a basic POWER. So you can even use it during the villain's turn when you defend. At least that is how I understand it.

Aug 20, 2022 XPGamer · 37

`@Vortilion if your playing with 2 players this deck is fine as you can ready yourself on Unflappable and Electrostatic Armor trigger to defend for your teammate as the timing for it is perfect to use Ghost-Spider's ability

Sep 02, 2022 Schnautza · 46

@XPGamer Gwen's ability to ready only triggers after Response/Interrupt from EVENT cards, not UPGRADE cards, so neither of those options would trigger her ability.

@ToneeTales did you play this rule correctly? It's curious to me that you only picked 2 aspect events with responses/interrupts since that's Gwen's main schtick.

This deck is awesome ! Built this deck with some swaps. Did great vs Venom Goblin.

Aug 28, 2023 Clueless · 47

@DaRoach18 What swaps did you make for this deck against venom goblin if you don't mind me asking?

Sep 19, 2023 Oh Hey, Kevin · 13

Been piloting this deck and enjoying it thoroughly. Hit my first real snag against Red Skull, but I swapped in Not Today! for Expert Defense, and that got me over the hump of having to deal with all those side schemes.
