Star Lord – OTK
Thx Inigomontoya for bringing back to reality... Stinger can't actually be played in here. I guess the combo can still be pulled off with a lesser efficiency rate unless you play it with more assets in play
Well I was lucky enough to get my hands on the Gamora and Star Lord packs early, been playing them for a week now. So, here’s the result of my experimentations with Star Lord. I started this deck with an OTK design in mind. If you don’t like decks that just break the game, walk away now!
One-turn kill decks have been somewhat of a thing when Quicksilver came out. It’s a very specific, combo-oriented deck that builds a setup to win the game by doing all the damage needed to win in one massive round. Star Lord is a hero who can achieve this because of his unique abilities.
Up to 7 allies
Yes, 7 allies! Your normal 3 + The Triskelion + Avengers Tower + Stingerr + Knowhere. That latest addition can only be enjoyed by Guardian heroes. Build your board of cheap allies quickly thanks, in part, to “what could go wrong?”.
Must-have
You should put in play Avengers tower, triskelion, knowhere, your Element Gun, and Star-Lords's Helmet ASAP! Those are the foundations of the deck.
That means you could start your turn with 8 cards in hand (if you have pushed the helmet to the limit) or even 10 (helmet + Bad Boy).
With 7 AVENGERS allies in play + 10 cards in hand + Tower, Triskelion, knowhere, the gun and the helmet AND 1 more permanent (Jet Boots, Leader of the Guardians, Element Gun #2... ) you’ve got 23 cards that you know of, 17 in your deck.
the combo
Play Strength In Numbers, draw 7.
Play Avengers Assemble!. Now, during this process, keep every daring escapes and Sliding Shot in your hand, pay with something else!
Play a second strength in numbers, draw 7.
Play your 3 Daring Escape (you’d be very unlucky to have them all 3 sitting on the bottom of your deck!). Congrats, you've just drawn your deck!
With 4 encounters in front of you (5 if you already used “what could go wrong, if not, pay your first sliding shot with it):
-
you’ve attacked 4 times (once + all 3 Daring escapes) = 8 DMG AT LEAST.
-
If you managed to play Blaze of Glory before your first attack or in between attacks, that means up to 16 DMG just from your basic attacks.
-
you can now play all 3 Sliding shots, each for 15 DMG (3 encounters from Daring escapes, 1 from decking out, 1 from using “what could go wrong?”)
Win the game.
Alternate win
After you’ve played Avengers Assemble, play Blaze of Gloryand have all your allies attack: avengers assemble + BOG means + 3 atk for each of your allies. 7 allies with at least 4 atk = 28 DMG, and you haven't considered your own attacks and Sliding Shot.
This combo is only possible as Star Lord, who turns all allies into Guardians, enabling the use of Blaze of Glory for all.
ARE YOU KIDDING ME?
Seems far-fetched? Not at all. I did it on my first game with this deck, it’s just a matter of patience. In the meantime, you keep control over the scheme with your 2 thw, your allies thw if necessary. You may have to sacrifice allies to chomp-block but, in the end, you’ll play them back. Not saying it all goes perfectly, you’ll hit bumps along the way.
Still, it can be achieved, but it's harder for some very fast scenarios (I suspect very rough for GMW).I’ll admit I haven’t tried this against every scenario or the GMW campaign so don’t bite my head off if you try Ronan and it doesn’t go your way!
There it is. Have fun!

May 14, 2021Lol! Just like me, going in too enthusiastic! |
May 14, 2021Still love the deck and it can work if an Avenger gives him Honorary Avenger in multiplayer. Imo, Star-Lord was made for those kind of synergies. :) |
May 14, 2021Agreed, he's amazing to build for just for that reason! Trading Stinger for another should me it just a bit less reliable, but I've pulled the combo without her before so I won't lose sleep over that! |
May 14, 2021This is almost exactly what I landed on, I just swapped Nick Fury, Maria Hill and Stinger for copies of Call for Aid to thin things a little more. In the past playing with this build with Strange sometimes Call for Aid could backfire and mill 10 but with Star-Lord decking yourself is just synergy lol. |
Very cool deck, but Star-Lord can't play Stinger since he's not an Avenger.
