Captain Marvel - Current (C1.7)
Even though the current environment isn't forced on anyone, I do enjoy building with deck restrictions! This is version one of a Captain Marvel deck I'm going "keep standard" as the format rotates.
I decided on Aggression for 1.0 because it comes very close to a Legacy deck I'm already playing: The Billionaire Lifestyle, which crushed Expert Ultron with 19 straight wins and 1 loss.
I only lost four cards in current:
I replaced them with:
- Grant Ward.
- Bambino
- Build Support
- Three copies of Haymaker (not great, but they have an icon, and she's going to draw so many cards that I don't care about being at 42 cards).
This decks seeks to flood the board with Supports and Allies to "keep up the pressure" (no pun intended) on the villain.
The Current Environment (C1.7)
This deck was built using the C (Current) 1.7 (Listed in Rules Reference 1.7) Environment, meaning it has "access" to the following, most recent products:
Boxes:
- Core
- Age of Apocalypse
- Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
- Civil War
Hero packs:
- Iceman
- Jubilee
- Nightcrawler
- Magneto
- Black Panther (Shuri)
- Silk
- Falcon
- Winter Soldier
Unreleased hero packs (at the time of publication):
- Wonder Man
- Hercules
Going forward
As those packs become available and older boxes and packs "rotate out" I'll create iterative versions of this deck, which may contain Aspects swaps.
For example, I'll lose access to Keep Up the Pressure when Iceman rotates out and Build Support when Shuri rotates out, but I'll gain access to Call for Backup when Hercules rotates in, so I might swap to Leadership. This deck will also take a big hit when Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. rotates out, losing most of its S.H.I.E.L.D. cards (including The Bellerophon)!
Whether or not I swap to a different aspect, I'll be on the lookout to replace Haymaker.
A Journey?
I think I'm one of the few people who likes the Beta Environments because, even though it's not a forced rotation, I really do love deck building restrictions and changing a deck over time to fit the "requirements".
Captain Marvel is one of my favorite heroes, and now rather than asking "okay how will I build her this time?", the question becomes "okay, how does she change as the world (i.e. Environment) around her changes?" This outlook starts her (and any hero you choose to do this with) on a journey of change and growth which excites me!
