Magneto On Trial

You claim justice is overdue. Indeed. But so is healing. —Magneto, X-Men '97

Intro

In Marvel Champions, Justice often trades speed for stability—but Magneto breaks that mold. His unique abilities allow this deck to maintain order without sacrificing much tempo, clearing schemes while simultaneously developing the board and pressuring the villain.

This deck accurately portrays Magneto as a strategist who moves quickly and decisively, proving that control and momentum are not mutually exclusive.

Design Goals

  • Build a deck to defeat each scenario (including Missions) in the Age Of Apocalypse campaign.
  • Keep the theme relatively tight.
    • Only include allies that are X-Men or X-Force.
    • Exclude abilities, supports, upgrades, etc. that would seem out of place in a comic book featuring Magneto.

Tips For Solo Play

  • Use Magnetic Pull every turn. You'll wince occasionally at the cards that end up in your discard pile and you'll get a few more extra encounter cards because of how quickly you run through your deck, but the extra card in hand and the extra ready from Magneto's Cape make up for it.
  • Prioritize getting these cards onto the table:
    • Magneto's Cape. Get that extra ready as soon as possible.
    • Heroic Intuition. Allows you to use your basic thwart less so you can use your basic attack/defense more. Also increases your chances of being able to use Turn the Tide and Skilled Investigator.
    • Magneto's Armor. Buff your second activation.
    • Plan B. I frequently end up with one or two extra cards, especially when I draw a couple of Digging Deep while resolving Magnetic Pull. Turn those extra cards into damage.
    • Magnetic Bubble. I love it when I've got 4 or 5 damage sitting on this and the villain hits me with a big attack.
  • Prioritize Metal Shards over Supports and Upgrades not listed above.
  • Control threat on the main scheme so you can flip down after using or spending your important MAGNETIC cards and get them back into your deck. The obvious choice is Metal Shards, but it can be highly situational. For example, maybe you had to spend Magnetic Missile to play Wrapped in Metal.

Trimming The Fat

Don't like decks with more than 40 cards? Start by removing Surveillance Teams and a couple of allies. I've got 8 allies because I needed a few extra for the missions in Age of Apocalypse.

The Johnny Combo

Remove the final two threat from Lay the Trap with Clear the Area while Turn the Tide is in hand and Skilled Investigator is on the table. This is 8 total damage for 4 ER (or fewer if you can clear more side schemes while Skilled Investigator is out. Easier said than done.

Thanks for sharing your 1st deck. Plan B is a pretty decent card, but paired with Digging Deep and Magneto, it looks really solid! It's got me rethinking a recent Magneto Justice deck I was working on for multiplayer. Thanks for the inspiration!
