I've played a couple of decks to get the feeling right. It was great, he's a fun hero and all. But then I've tested Levati's deck (the-god-king-of-cost-efficiency-the-correct-way-to-bishop-1.0) and my mind was blown: this guy's pretty much invincible! I've tweaked his deck once in a while to understand the character more deeply and craft the best deck I could with the cards that are out so far (They're releasing Magneto soon and the only hero I'm missing is Wolverine).
Bishop wants resources, lots of them. It's his thing, so just let him have fun with it. His ability, matched with his Uniform, makes him pretty much invincible in most cases once you're all setup. And setting up is fast for a guy who has 15 resource cards! In most games I've played, I didn't have to defend: half of the attacks on him, heals instead of damages.
But what if you get attacked twice you ask? Well, Nightcrawler is one of the best allies in the game, in my opinion. And this deck milks this cow dry. Once he is in play, you keep in in there like a safety net: when you have already exhausted your Uniform, he bamfs and you are scratch free. And with all the resources you have throughout the whole game, he comes back the next turn without a sweat.
Since you have your Suit on and Endurance to keep on going, Dauntless will be active most rounds. Nice chipping damage and tough status cancellation right here!
Also, Specialized Training is an interesting card for him since he can thwart quite a bit. Two hero events, a 2 THW stat (3 with the Suit), readies from lots of cards (which is nice when you want Symbiote Suit to be as profitable as can be) and some potent thwarting allies... He can manage. And once you clear it, you'll want Front Line Specialist because he'll be "taking damage" every turn, which will be healed right after.
There are lots of resource cards to choose from but my strategy is this:
- You want & for Nightcrawler.
- The Power of Flight not only good for Nightcrawler, it's also good for Starhawk
- Appart from Energy, I avoid the double resources because of his nemesis cards. I play standard III so he comes up quite fast. In this set, there are 2x Temporal Trickery, which are mean when you're fighting villains with lots of side schemes. 4 doubles is more than enough in this deck, already counting for 10% of the cards (close to 15% when setup)
Honorary X-Men is always a fun card to match with Utopia, but it's also a fail-safe in combination with Nightcrawler if there's a villain card that hits you in alter-ego form. Now THAT'S a good teammate!
Cards that could've made it:
- Med Team: In multiplayer, it can be fun to play the medic with this deck because he has the resources to play this card easily.
- Sharpshooter: his riffle makes a ranged attack, and he has 4 double resources, if you feel like luck is on your side
- Lockjaw: can be a logical resource dump, but I didn't use him enough to keep him in the roster
- Plan B: a good resource dump, but not good enough.
I hope you'll have fun playing this deck. Leave a like if you appreciate this deck, I love feedback from the community!
