For SCL Season 14 Round 5 - Expert Mysterio with Personal Nightmare + Symbiotic Strength

This round's deck restrictions require no Avenger trait cards and no shared trait with the hero (in this case... no Web Warriors). I had to include at least one Guardian and one Champion this round though per rules.

So, I picked X-men to support the Porker this round. X-men have good synergy in Leadership and basic, and they have fewer trait locks than Champions, Web Warriors, and Guardians.

High priority card to mulligan for is Clarity of Purpose, because that gives Spider-Ham two resources!

With such a strong X-men theme, why would I put Nick Fury in here?

Well, look at this possible situation:

  1. Play Nick Furry - draw 3 cards
    1. Now either draw into Petulant Pig or have it in hand already
  2. Play Petulant Pig -> block villain with Nick Fury -> draw another 3 cards!
  3. If Rapid Response happens to be in play, bring Nick Fury back into play for another 3 cards!
  4. A possible 6 to 9 card draw in one turn... nuts. If it's opening hand, then crazy setup.

Also, note that you can still use the extra Clarity of Purpose on an ally :) However, the extra is to help draw in faster especially bigger deck.

A big part of the strategy is to get Colossus or Gentle down on the board with Danger Room Training. Even better if Team Training is down, then use the two brawling X-men to potentially deal 12 damage in a single turn through the use of Game Time and Utopia. Yes, I've done this.

Professor X, and Beast are there to help with threat removal. Beast is also here to make your turn more efficient by fetching a double resource card plus a great target for Danger Room Training.

Pixie is great for grabbing Beast or Professor X back out of the discard when you need them.

Forge is great for economy, by grabbing Danger Room more as a resource and hitting Shifting Apparitions.

The card is not a slim 40-card deck partly because Mysterio forces a lot of discards. I wanted a lot of options on the table in case Fearmonger or Evil Doppelgänger start milling my deck. Plus, Mysterio gives you enough encounter cards on his own without getting the extra encounter card for going through your deck.

Oh, I never used Huge Wooden Hammer because I reserved Spider Ham as my main Shifting Apparition killer with Forge, Ironheart, or Cosmo as backup.
