The main idea of this deck is to take care of minions. Thor is at his best when he has a steady supply of enemies to fight, since defeating minions lets him draw cards and keep the hammer swinging. We are going to lean into that by bringing along several ways to summon minions and pull them into the fight. Most of the time, Thor will be using his basic attack to deal with them, but we have plenty of attack events to help clean things up when necessary.
Getting the minions into play: There are three copies each of Spoiling for a Fight, Defender of the Nine Realms, and Get Over Here! to help make sure Thor always has something to hit. Spoiling for a Fight and Defender of the Nine Realms let us find minions in the encounter deck, with Defender of the Nine Realms also helping us remove threat. Get Over Here! is particularly handy when you need to pull a minion engaged with another player into your own fight. The point of all this is to keep Thor supplied with targets so that he can take advantage of his card draw ability. We don't want to waste time waiting for the encounter deck to cooperate.
Thor's basic attack: The main plan is to use Thor's basic attack to defeat minions and keep the cards flowing. Combat Training and Aggressive Conditioning are essential here because we are relying so heavily on Thor's ATK stat to deal damage. Increasing his attack makes every basic activation more effective, helping him finish off minions without needing to spend cards on attack events. Limitless Stamina and Lady Sif give us ways to ready Thor and get additional activations out of him. The more often we can attack, the more minions we can defeat and the more cards we can draw.
The attack events: Sometimes Thor needs a little extra help to finish a minion, or there are simply too many enemies to deal with using basic attacks alone. Melee, Hammer Throw, Lightning Strike, Pitchback, and Fusillade give us plenty of options for dealing damage. Melee is especially useful when several minions are lined up and need to be cleared out, while Lightning Strike can turn a collection of smaller enemies into a very satisfying chain of defeats.
Fusillade has particularly good synergy with Mjolnir. Since Mjolnir is a weapon that Thor can keep in play and exhaust to pay for Fusillade, we have a reliable way to use the event without needing to find another weapon. It gives us another way to deal damage while making good use of an upgrade that is already central to the deck. Bring It! is also valuable when we have several minions engaged with us, turning a crowded board into an opportunity for even more card draw.
The allies: Angela and Valkyrie both fit naturally into a deck that wants to find and defeat minions. They help us keep the pressure on the enemy board, while Throg is particularly useful because we will usually have a minion engaged with us. This makes it much easier to take advantage of his Tough status, giving us a durable ally who can absorb an attack and help keep Thor in fighting shape. Lady Sif is especially valuable because she can ready Thor, helping us get more basic attacks in. The allies provide useful support, but the real star of the deck is still Thor himself.
Rest of the deck: Asgard provides additional card draw, while God of Thunder helps pay for our events by providing resources. Thor's Helmet helps with survivability, and For Asgard! gives us another way to find important Asgard cards. Martial Prowess helps pay for our attack events, making it easier to use them when we need extra damage. Finally, Keep Up the Pressure gives us a way to turn our success against minions into progress on a player side scheme.
The end result is a Thor deck that wants to keep the minions coming and make them regret it. Rather than relying entirely on the villain as a source of targets, we have several ways to find enemies and bring them into the fight. Thor's basic attack does most of the heavy lifting, with his attack events helping to clear out groups or finish enemies that would otherwise take another activation. The upgrades that increase his ATK are essential to making this plan work efficiently, while the readying effects let us get even more value from that investment. When everything lines up, Thor gets to do what he does best: hit things with a hammer, draw cards, and hit more things with a hammer.
