Shadowcat doesn't want to stay in one form.
This deck is built to use both Solid and Phased, constantly moving between them to attack, defend, control threat, and make the villain regret trying to hit Kitty in the first place.
Use Both Forms
The key to Shadowcat is knowing when you want to be Solid and when you want to be Phased.
Cards like Phase Strike, Airwalk, Quick Shift and Shadowcat Surprise help Kitty move through her forms while getting value at the same time.
Don't fight the form changes.
Use them.
Make Every Defense Count
Protection gives Kitty plenty to do when enemies attack.
Powerful Punch deals 4 damage as soon as an enemy initiates an attack while also counting as a defense.
Preemptive Strike, Not Today! and Bait and Switch give you different ways to turn enemy attacks into opportunities.
With Flow Like Water and Electrostatic Armor in play, defending isn't passive anymore. The villain can take damage simply for trying.
Phased and Confused
Phased and Confused can completely shut down an enemy attack and leave that enemy Confused afterward.
Combined with Kitty's natural ability to avoid damage while Phased, you have several ways to make enemy activations accomplish very little.
Meanwhile, Nerves of Steel and Deft Focus help pay for the steady stream of defense and superpower events.
Don't Build a Wall
This isn't a Protection deck about stacking DEF and sitting there.
Kitty is constantly moving.
Attack while Solid. Phase through danger. Defend when it benefits you. Switch back and hit them again.
The deck rewards timing much more than simply having a giant defensive stat.
Solid. Phased. Solid. Phased.
Good luck hitting her.
