I thought it might be nice to publish decks that use more readily available product, as there are likely some new players joining that are looking to use what they can purchase rather than feel left out for not having all the OOP cards. For the first set of this series, I'm going to stick to core set heroes. This should help give new players an idea of what they should buy after getting the core set and playing the game a few times.
This build uses the core set, Civil War, Fear No Evil, Black Panther (Shuri), Silk, Wonder Man, Hercules, and Jessica Jones. These should be fairly readily available, though FNE and Jessica Jones is in high demand as of this deck's creation. If you have already acquired the packs needed for the previous deck builds in this series, then you will only need one hero pack for this build, Silk, and it is the last of the more recent packs released and available (again, based on when I created this deck). Which means you'll be all caught up in time for this winter when the next two new hero packs arrive! Hooray!
Silk uses a mechanic to tuck encounter cards under her hero, which in turn fuel her kit. If you tuck the right cards that match the encounter set of the enemy or scheme you are attacking or thwarting, it can lead to massive turns of big damage dealt and/or threat removed. She's a little tricky to grasp and the decklists here use a lot of out of print cards, so you might or might not be able to build a deck for her using your current card collection. It will be somewhat challenging given the limited in-print card pool right now.
On to the deck!
If you've been building and playing the previous decks in this series, you should be getting pretty familiar with how the heroes and different aspect cards play and combo with each other. This deck uses Cuts Both Ways to increase Black Panther's retaliate, dealing auto damage to attacking enemies during the villain phase while he blocks with a 5 DEF using the (familiar by now) Armored Vest, Defensive Conditioning, and Innate Reflexes upgrades. Once the upgrades are out, you should be pretty close to impervious to the villain's attacks. Any damage you do end up taking can be redirected on your turn with Wakanda Forever! activating Vibranium Suit.
That's all well and good, but it's only one basic defense against one attack. Well, how would you like the equivalent of TWO basic defenses against TWO attacks? That's what Echo is here to do, mimicking the King of Wakanda's defense capabilities by reducing 2-5 damage taken from enemy attacks. Maya Lopez, Shield of the King!
The Dora Milaje and Shuri are here too, providing a Wakanda trait King's guard that uses Stronger Together to prevent 2-5 damage taken from any source, including consequential damage if you so choose. It also works on Brother Voodoo, who shares the Avenger trait. Combined with Echo's ability, every ally in the deck can benefit from T'Challa's DEF.
Black Panther is going to take some lumps as you play out his upgrades, and allies will get defeated early to mid game. Use Dr. Sinclair and The Night Nurse to help keep him healthy, and retreat to your Hidden Base every so often to pick up a tough to help mitigate the damage while building up.
Thwart is the weakness here, so keep an eye on the threat and do your best to play ahead of the schemes. Your allies and Tactical Genius supplement your base 2 THW. Stay flexible and weigh the expected damage from enemies versus the potential threat placed so as to be ready to basic thwart instead of exhausted from basic defending. As long as you can stay ahead of the threat on schemes, you will get to a place where your cards can maintain a steady board state, allowing you to play repeat Wakanda Forever! events.
Swaps!
Heart of the Panther requires having Shuri in play to use it. Effectively it becomes a more expensive Wakanda Forever! that won't get played very often as the deck stands. However, your collection now includes the Black Panther (Shuri) hero pack which means you could build a deck for her kit and have a friend join you, making Heart of the Panther always available to play when you draw it and they'll have a copy as well. Latest rulings allow you to remove the identity-specific ally that matches an identity being played and replace it with the team-up event card that works with those identities. You can choose to keep your signature ally and use them as a resource, or you could remove them to allow Heart of the Panther to take their place, which means adding another card to get to the 40 card minimum. So the question is, which protection or basic card do you choose? You should be familiar with your collection by now to make that decision on your own! (...though I'm biased towards including Nick Fury personally.)
Build up, block damage, retaliate, and rally the elite forces of Wakanda to victory! WAKANDA FOREVER!!!
