Deck Overview

This is a low-complexity deck that doesn't do anything particularly novel, but it does it well. We are going for big damage and maximum card cycling, using the Champions trait to have a thematic deck that plays fast and requires minimal setup, while doing all the things that the Aggression player should do at the table.

Deck Description

We are bringing the Champions team to the fight!

  • The Locust brings Aggression events back from the discard pile.
  • Ms. Marvel prevents them from being discarded in the first place.
  • Ironheart and Moon Girl let you draw more cards to get what you need.
  • Brawn can help you spread damage and thwart around to make the most of your Unleash Nova Force plays.
  • Vivian blanks nasty effects when you need it.
  • Spider-Man provides some tempo thwart or attack the turn he is played.
  • Champions Mobile Bunker will let you curate your hand to get what you need when you need it.

Nova likes to lean into resources, so we want to make sure we put more in if we can. And so we are skipping the usual Energy, Genius, and Strength in favor of more wild resources: The Power in All of Us and The Power of Aggression. These can both help trigger his signature events to only pay one card, help to hit the kicker for Honed Technique, and helps us get our basic allies into the fight (and helps hit the kicker for Moon Girl).

Resourceful provides the resource we need to trigger Honed Technique, helps trigger the resource requirement on Nova's own cards like Lightspeed Flight, Forcefield Projection, and Pot Shot, and can be stored for later be playing it onto the table.

Jarnbjorn is here to unload your extra resource after you activate, because you can end up with a spare resource from your helmet that you can't spend. Resourceful is another resource dump for that reason.

Honed Technique is a big card for us, and so we have two copies included to increase the damage we deal with Aggression Attack events. Keep Up the Pressure gets more Attack events for the entire table, letting you push even more damage to finish off the villain. Speaking of Attack events, we have a few good ones:

  • Dive Bomb is the classic for an Aerial character like Nova to unleash massive damage across the table when combined with Honed Technique.
  • Clobber combines well with Honed Technique, is cheap and flexible, and also can be spent as a to hit the requirement for Jarnbjorn.
  • Pitchback is another great Attack event for Aerial characters.

Notes on true solo play:

If you are aiming to make this a deck that works for true solo, consider swapping Dive Bomb for Chase Them Down to boost your thwart. Nova has a solid amount of thwart in his kit, but Chase Them Down can also be recycled with The Locust and Ms. Marvel to increase its effectiveness. Cards like Multitalented could also be considered to boost survivability and threat management. Snowguard is a great thematic ally who can provide some more thwart if you need it!

If you aren't beholden to the theme of the Champions, you could always add in true solo staples like Professor X and Nick Fury, who provide a for Honed Technique along with the other benefits of status and card draw.

Some people will scoff at the inclusion of Resourceful, and you could take it out to further load up on allies. But give it a try, you might be surprised how well it works here!
