Introduction
This is my take on Vision Sidekick.
Vivian is a fun and powerful Sidekick target due to her versatility. She can easily modulate her output depending on whether damage or thwarting is needed. Once Inspired, she'll be thwarting or attacking for 4. Throw some healing and readying in the mix and she can get some serious work done.
Strategy
If you start with Vivian and Sidekick in hand, you're golden. Otherwise, mulligan aggressively for Suit Up; it's the most reliable way to find both Vivian and Sidekick. Keep Vivian if she starts in hand, since we can always draw into her upgrades later.
Allies
We're looking for cheap, efficient allies who can maintain tempo, help find our key cards, and/or chump block.
- Grand Ward is a bit of a gamble, but on average ends up being excellent. His synergy with Command Team is noteworthy. Solar Gem can cover the mental resource in a pinch.
- Ironheart is a cheap chump blocker, mostly.
- Kaluu is basically an Ironheart who gives us more choice over what we draw at the (low) risk of whiffing. We have more than enough events to make him reliable.
- Machine Man allows us to harness 616 Hickory Branch Lane as a resource generator. Don't actually play him unless you're desperate.
- Maria Hill is Maria Hill.
- Nick Fury is Nick Fury.
- Spider-Man (Miles) can give us a boost of whatever we need and is an ideal Command Team target.
Events
- Reboot allows us to get extra tempo and value out of Vivian. It's not quite as busted as Game Time, but she's not an X-Men.
- Side-by-Side is like a BOHO version of Reboot. Just what we want.
- Suit Up helps us find Vivian, Sidekick, and her remaining upgrades. We're running max copies because so many of our cards depend on getting Sidekicked Vivian on the board.
Resources
- The standard doubles are fantastic in this deck.
Supports
- Command Team effectively banks 3 copies of Get Ready to use on demand. In addition to Vivian, Nick Fury and Miles are also great targets.
Upgrades
- Clarity of Purpose takes advantage of the fact that we're already planning to REC to keep Vivian healed. We can also pump our REC up to 5 if needed.
- Deft Focus pays for all of our signature events and Density Control.
- Inspired pumps up Vivian's stats.
- Reinforced Suit gives us more leeway on when to flip and heal Vivian via Sidekick.
- Sidekick makes the magic happen.
Sideboard
- Replace Miles with White Tiger on Expert.
Special mentions
- Inspiring Presence nearly made the cut, but it's less flexible than Reboot and less efficient than Side-by-Side.
- Quincarrier and Helicarrier are viable options, but we already have Clarity of Purpose, Deft Focus, Solar Gem, and 616 Hickory Branch Lane.
- We have enough targets to justify Power of Leadership, but with so mana cheap resource generators it would be a shame to get mana flooded.
- I experimented with Innovation, but generally wasn't that happy to see it.
