Note: swapped Mockingbird for Black Knight. she can pop toughs AND stun.
They say if you want a job done right then you gotta do it yourself. And if that job requires smashing then Hulk is the right man for the job.
But if that job requires literally anything else then you better just pay the man best suited for the job at hand.
Or in this case, just pay the man, vampire, or android in question.
It’s no secret that Hulk likes his resource sinks, and Grant Ward might be our best one yet. He comes out for nothin’ and if you’re very very lucky you might not have to sink any resources into him at all. But you probably will so that’s what the deck is prepared to do.
This is a leadership Hulk deck that revolves around Suit Up. We really wanna see one on the first turn so we can grab Grant Ward and Clarity of Purpose and get a quick start. With Grant down Hulk actually has some thwarting at his disposal and Clarity can guarantee we always have a mental to pay his mercenary price in case we flip a treachery and he’s thinking about jumping ship. Hulk has 18 starting health so we’re not afraid to use Clarity early and often.
We really wanna make sure Grant doesn’t go AWOL because we can also use Make The Call to get him back for free meaning we should pretty much always have 2 THW at our disposal. Or 3 if you can get Inspired on him. Reinforced Suit is also a potential option, but we don’t wanna invest too much into such a flight risk so I would leave that in the deck so you can keep using Suit Up for the whole game.
Machine Man and Blade are classic Hulk choices and still work well here. Dump any leftover resources into them to get some use out of your extra cards before your special “ability” makes them go to the discard pile.
Professor X is also a great target for Suit Up since you can guarantee a flip down assuming you have the resources to still afford him. This deck wants to flip as much as possible just to preserve Hulk’s health and get some extra card draw and he makes that really easy against most villains. As much as I want to start with Grant on the table, if I start the game with a triple resource and a suit up then I’m getting Professor X out first.
Mockingbird is here for stun and a nice 1 ATK to deal with pesky stuns.
I mentioned you wanna flip a lot, and you can’t use Clarity in alter ego to protect Grant so you’ll wanna make sure to get either Banner’s Lab or the Quincarrier out sooner rather than later.
You’ll mostly be just tanking hits to Hulk’s health so Endurance and the occasional recovery are our defense plan. Though Charles is always happy to take one on the chin for you.
Leadership Skill is a really efficient card to get just a little bit more out of your allies activations. I had two in here for awhile because I really like it but it is Max 1 per player and Hulk Just can’t afford more dead draws than he already gets so I trimmed it down to one.
And speaking of dead draws, Assess the Situation nicely rounds out those all too frequent Hulk hands where you have a card left you couldn’t use. Basically another resource sink.
In case you’re wondering I deliberately chose not to include Maria Hill or Ironheart here because I find all too often they end up drawing a card that you can’t afford and it could get wasted.
For me this is the first Hulk deck I’ve ever played that lets me play Hulk like pretty much any other hero. You don’t have to rush, and probably shouldn’t try with this deck. You can certainly still Smash when the occasion arrives, but otherwise this is a smarter, more calculating Hulk. Which is just how I like him.
So Smash when you can, otherwise just pay the man already
Just bought Hulk, and before this unsure of a good true solo deck for him. Thank you!
