Bucky the Minion Slayer
Winter Soldier vs Expert Ronan Playthrough

Winter Soldier has one of the best precons in all of Marvel Champions, so this deck leans into what he already wants to do--slay minions. Bucky's hero ability, Lethal Protector, allows him to remove 2 threat from any scheme each time he defeats an enemy. This allows Bucky to easily control threat without even focusing on it as long as he's slaying minions.
Summon Minions
Safe House #30 is one of the most reliable ways to summon minions. As an alter-ego action, we want to have plenty of confuses to be able to flip down to use it. Bucky already has built in confuses with Silent Infiltration, but adding in Psylocke and Professor X gives us even more. Angela is also in this deck to grab us a minion when we need it.
Make $$$ from Minions
Minions give us money. We want to get as much value from the minions we summon as possible.
• "Bring it!" draws a card for each minion engaged with you
• Man on the Wall reduces the cost of the next card played for each minion engaged with you
• Hall of Heroes gets a glory counter each time Bucky defeats a minion
• Winter Mask can exhaust to draw a card when Bucky defeats a minion
• Silent Infiltration can ready Bucky up and confuse an enemy when he defeats a minion
Slay Minions
With 7 attack events in his identity-specific kit (3x Metal Punch, 2x Electrical Discharge, 2x Arm Block) Bucky already has plenty of ways to slay minions. For even more consistency, this deck runs 2x Firepower, the Super-Soldiers team-up, and the Winter, Widow, Soldier, Spy team-up. We always want to have the opportunity to slay these minions when they're in play and the Cybernetic Arm works for all of these attack events. It's important to keep in mind that playing an attack event to defeat a minion will also trigger Lethal Protector, Winter Mask, and Silent Infiltration.
Events aside, Bucky also has his Winter Rifle, S.H.I.E.L.D. Sidearm, and Bambino to boost his basic attack activation. Use this to slay more minions.
Best Teammate
Team-up cards are getting better and better. Super-Soldiers can reliably be played since the Captain America ally usually stays in play for a long time with his tough status and 3 hit points. Winter, Widow, Soldier, Spy is an attack event that the Black Widow ally can tutor from the discard when she's played and it puts in Silent Infiltration. Usually team-up cards that rely on having unique allies in play are too luck dependent, but both of these team-up events are very reliable with these 2 allies and in Bucky’s kit. Cybernetic Arm can help pay for them and they will proc all of Bucky's minion slaying abilities since playing an attack event is considered making an attack. In my deck showcase against expert Ronan I was able to play both team-ups which is super fun!
Player Side Schemes --> Winter Rifle
Winter Rifle is bonkers. Getting +2 attack on top of piercing and ranged makes it the priority target for Lock and Load and Superpower Training.
Is Minion Slaying Viable?
Long ago, minion slaying was once considered a multiplayer archetype because focusing on minions and damage meant that other areas like thwarting and survivability would be lacking. This is no longer the case in 2025. Ronan the Accuser is a scenario that isn’t minion heavy and the minions that he has are all rough. This makes him the ultimate test for minion-oriented aggression decks in true solo.

Jun 23, 2025Thanks for sharing your deck. :) I played a few games with it against Expert Klaw (solo) and I was defeated every time. Here are my lessons learned from this experience (though limited, I know): 1. Winter Soldier's early game management is poor.
To survive hits from the Villain AND to manage the threat in the early game, he also needs some allies that can thwarting and chump block (or stun). 2. Winter Soldier's economy is poor.
If you use his events to pay for set-up cards, then he struggles to deal with the threat and minions in play. If you use the set up cards to play the events and handle the board, then you're discarding single-copied cards that you need to wait to cycle through your deck before being able to access them. This exacerbates the feeling that he's slow to set-up. My conclusions (thus far)
If you played this deck solo and had good success, I'm curious to hear about your experience... what you prioritize and how you make it through the early game. |
Jun 23, 2025What's this?! Nick Fury, Sr in a WWF deck?! Love it! One small note regarding the end of the write-up is that, in my opinion, Ronan IS a minion-heavy scenario (at least with his regular modular set, Kree Militants), especially in solo play. While the quantity of minions isn't overwhelming, the permanent hazard icon and fairly plentiful surge makes it far more likely to find a minion than the plain quantity of them would suggest. The hazard icon alone effectively doubles our chances. |
hey you gotta fix your links!
