Chillin’ by the ‘Pool
Iceman versus Expert Magneto
Deckbuilding Tutorial
This deck has 3 key focuses:
-
Threat mitigation (building on Iceman’s strengths)
-
Consistent Readying (to trigger “Freeze!” more often)
-
Burst damage (compensating Iceman’s lack of damage)
The ‘Pool aspect has the versatility to cover all these areas perfectly.
Threat Mitigation
Being able to mitigate threat allows in-game freedom and Iceman already has one of the best ways to do this with Frostbite (which reduces the enemies’ scheme) and Frozen Solid (which can stop an attack or scheme activation).
Building on this, we included Not my Responsibility, an amazing ‘Pool aspect card that lets an ally take threat added as damage. We also have Stepford Cuckoos, an X-Men treachery cancel to stop things like Advance.
Consistent Readying
Iceman’s hero ability is contingent on him making a basic attack or basic defense, which means we want ways to ready him so he can make those basic exhaust activations. He has Cryokinetic Perception in his kit, but this card doesn’t consistently ready because there’s no way to guarantee pulling an Ice card with its ability. To improve on this, we included Utopia with a plethora of X-Men allies and Stick-to-itiveness.
Burst Damage
Iceman is lacking in burst damage because his biggest attack event is Artic Attack, which does at most 6 damage. To add a consistent way to burst, we included Tic-Tac-Toe, which can be timed to do 7 damage compounding with a big attack turn. Having easy access to alter-ego also allows Iceman to trigger Cooling Down and put those Artic Attacks back into the deck.
Conclusion
Every other card in this deck is to supplement these 3 main focuses to get Iceman going. The resources and resource generators dilute the deck but allow Iceman to play his key upgrades/supports easier. Honorary X-Men gives Iceman the X-Men trait in alter-ego for more versatility with Utopia, The X-Jet, and even Professor X for the ready.

May 29, 2024Feel like moira would always be helpful here too since you leaned in to basic acting like a cheap mansion when you flip. |

May 31, 2024why not Deft Focus removing a Honorary X-Men? I get it could let you have another activation at 1 ally, my deft focus has 9 targets in the deck, more if you reshuffle them .. just wondering |
Jun 07, 2024Quick question but is tic tac toe essentially a 1 heal .. so potentially a 7 heal + 7 damage ? |
