Hot off the heels of my Mutant Protectors deck, this was meant to be another heavy ally themed Magik deck, this time "focusing" on justice.
Like most of my Magik decks, I'm not shy about discarding cards from the deck. The point is to get through the deck quickly and thin it out so that eventually I only start getting the cards I really want. The "Magik School" Decks that I've been working on are meant largely to focus on using Mutant Education and X-Men Instruction in order to put the cards that I really want back into my deck, as my first few games with Magik I noticed I cycled my deck very quickly and got several extra encounter cards in doing so, by putting cards back in I should be able to get fewer encounter cards playing some of my more impactful cards even more. Admittedly, this causes some decision making.. since I have stepping disc, is it better to shuffle 2 cards in, or put one card on top where I might use it immediately? Because Mutant Education shuffles, is it worth playing when I have a resource on top that I like? Or maybe I don't like the resource and want to try for something else? X-Men instruction has been less interesting. I often seem to get it early, when I don't really have any good targets in my discard.
Mutant Peacekeepers hasn't seen much play, because I usually only have one or two allies out at a time, and two of those can heal themselves (or avoid the damage in the first place).
So far I've only played this in the Red Skull campaign, one run-through on a team (with Venom, Shadowcat and X-23) and one run-through solo. The deck works either way. In my team games, SC and X23 were playing the precons and Venom switched to protection, but only had access to Sinister Motives and Galaxy's Most Wanted cards, so I'm pretty sure I wasn't being carried through the campaign or anything.
P.S.: Originally, I had Wolfsbane in the deck, but since I don't own next evolution yet, I replaced her with Beak, who seems to be working pretty well. I still want to try to find room for wolfsbane though, when I do eventually get her.
I replaced Forge with Wolfsbane and took out one mutant education and one x-men instruction. In the future I'm strongly considering putting the Mutant Education back and removing a Mutant Peacekeepers.
someone suggested that Expert Klaw is a good test for decks, so I played against expert Klaw with a friend who was playing the shadowcat precon and another friend playing a rogue deck that he cobbled together.. we stepped on each other's toes some with the x-men uniques and the game took a while, but we ultimately won. That was my first time facing Klaw and my first time playing expert, so I was definitely surprised by how fast he was flying through the encounter deck. It took a while, but ultimately we beat Klaw without too much concern.. I dropped down to five life on turn 1 and stayed near there most of the game.
still need to try expert Klaw on solo for the moment.
