The strategy here is to build up Groot's counters so that his hero cards are maximized.
The forced interrupt on Groot's hero side will use the tokens to remove damage before any other interupt such as booster boots or energy barrier. This also includes tough, as it's not as useful on Groot, it will only be used after all the tokens are removed from him.
This means a few things: 1) Groot will usually be on full health. So dauntless, unflappable and hard to ignore will trigger constantly as Groot hardly ever takes damage when defending 2) Making the enemy do less damage is very important for Groot. If he has armoured vest, he can handle 4 damage without losing a token. Subdue and preemptive strike can be used to get the villain damage down to under 4 3) Use first hit to kill minions before they do damage.
