Completed Scenarios:
- Expert Sinister Motives Campaign
- Expert Venom Goblin - Video Link
- Expert Mutagen Formula
- Expert Redskull - Video Link
- Expert Taskmaster - Video Link
- Expert Absorbing Man - Video Link

- Venom Goblin and Mutagen Formula both deal 2 encounter cards on the first turn, and I was still able to set up, survive, and win.
- Because of these wins I am confident in this deck.

Anyone Else Notice These Extra S.H.I.E.L.D. Tags Laying Around?
Captain Marvel has always been a mixed bag for me. I've found that her hero cards are lackluster, but her card draw is unparalleled. So instead of paying 2 resources to thwart for 2 with Crisis Interdiction, let's use our economy to bankroll S.H.I.E.L.D.
Alpha Flight Station is the key to this strategy. This hero-specific card has the shield tag. Normally, Captain Marvel would need to go into alter-ego to effectively utilize the card draw, but even in hero mode Alpha Flight Station can be exhausted to satisfy Homeland Intervention. Between 3 copies of Homeland Intervention and 3 copies of Surveillance Team, threat is a non-issue. Normally Surveillance Team isn't very good, but with Monica Chang adding extra snoop counters, it becomes an excellent card.
Strategy:
Once you are set up with this deck and have all your S.H.I.E.L.D. supports out, the game is basically over. So the goal is to set up as quickly and efficiently as possible. Be aware of the threat on the main scheme. If the main scheme isn't going to complete, stay in alter-ego for the extra card draw. After you're set up, threat will be completely taken care of, and you can use Energy Channel, Dum Dum Dugan, and Nick Fury to do big bursts of damage and close out the game.
Mulligan Priority
-
Alpha Flight Station
- This is by far the best card to get on the first turn. It counts as a S.H.I.E.L.D. support and lets you see 2 more cards from your deck.
-
Build Support
- This can search out whatever support you need. Preferably Helicarrier or Sky-Destroyer.
-
Monica Chang/Surveillance Team
- Ideally, you will already have 1 or two copies of Surveillance Team out, but an ally + a S.H.I.E.L.D. support for 3 cost is a great deal, and you will cycle through your deck fast enough that you will see her again.
-
Government Liaison
- Speeds up your build and can be used as an exhaust target for Homeland Intervention.
-
Avengers Mansion
- Play it on the first turn if you can, but it's not as important as the S.H.I.E.L.D. supports.

Tips For Getting Set Up
While it would be nice, you can't completely ignore the villain. If you stay in alter-ego for more than 2 turns, things will get difficult, and for some of the harder villains, you have to start dealing with threat and big hits immediately. Here is how to help deal with that:
-
Allies to Stall
-
Ironheart
- Gets you through the deck faster and can block.
-
Nick Fury
- Can let you draw 3 cards to hopefully see your S.H.I.E.L.D. supports.
-
Spider-Woman
- Can confuse the villain and give you a chance to go to alter-ego.
-
Mockingbird
- Can stun the villain, thwart twice, then block.
-
Ironheart
-
Supports for Resource
-
Build Support
- Let's you spend supports as a resource because you will be able to get them back from the discard pile.
-
Build Support
-
Minion Control
-
Photonic Blast
- Can be a great source of minion damage and card draw to help keep things under control.
-
Photonic Blast
Finish The Fight
The first time through the deck will feel like an any percent speedrun, but after that it's all about maximizing damage. At this point, most of your resources should be going toward allies, Photonic Blast, and Energy Channel. Captain Marvel can easily dish out 20+ damage in one turn at this point in the game when Energy Channel is up and running. If you have extra resources laying around, then consider the Cosmic Flight upgrade for some extra protection of your hp. Captain Marvel's Helmet and Crisis Interdiction almost never feel like the optimal play. Crisis Interdiction is best spent on Energy Channel stacks, and Captain Marvel's Helmet is only something I would consider if there is nothing else to do.
Card Substitutions:
I normally give specific cards, but it's hard to cut anything from this list. A few things you could change to fit your preference would be to cut down on Global Logistics to add in more allies, or anything else that you might want. Ironheart is great, but also not part of S.H.I.E.L.D. so you could switch her for anyone else you might want. Whatever you do though, I recommend keeping this a 40 card deck. It is important to get all of your shield cards up and running.
Have fun and I hope you enjoy this deck! It really transformed Captain Marvel for me. Leave a comment and let me know what you think! I like hearing from people.

Feb 14, 2024I love the write up! And, it’s really cool that you only need 4 packs for this deck. Gives it a low barrier of entry to try. Also, the deck is really powerful once it gets going. It made me think I was just creating a snowball that was getting bigger and bigger and then crushing the villain. |

Oct 20, 2024This deck rocks! I was able to manage threat for a 4-player game using this setup. I swapped in two copies of Field Agent, which has great synergy with Government Liason, Homeland Intervention, and Dum Dum Dugan. I also added a Quincarrier which helps pay for Rechannel. I replaced Build Support (don't own), one copy of Power In All of Us (already rich enough), and one copy of Global Logistics (amazing tech card but doesn't have an immediate impact on the board). I considered cutting Sky-Destroyer instead, but the mental image of Carol flying around with a fleet of aircraft is too good. |

SHIELD is great to add to a deck that you don't want to play the hero cards
